Christian Giving is an act of worship

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Christian giving is an act of worship.

In connection with the previous point, we see this truth stressed in another way in Paul's word's "On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save"
(1 Corinthians 16:2).

Paul here teaches the Corinthians that their taking up of the collection is an act of worship which is to be a part of their regular Lord's Day worship.
When we put our money in the plate, we are worshiping Almighty God in accordance with His Word. Note well, Paul is speaking here of a "collection for the saints" - this is giving by the Church to the Church for the Church.

Did you realize that giving is a part of worship? Is your worship in this area abundant or inhibited? Is giving to the Church a priority with you?

LET US PRAY
DEAR LORD JESUS, TEACH ME HOW TO USE MY MONEY IN TRUE WORSHIP IN JESUS NAME

GIVING ACCORDING TO JESUS

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: GIVING ACCORDING TO JESUS

The Lord Jesus wants us to practice benevolent or charitable giving.

Jesus said "When you give to the poor . . . ." (Matthew 6:2-3). Jesus is specifically teaching about "alms" in this passage: aid, charity, or benevolent offerings for the needy. Do you give amply enough to the Church that she can be generous in benevolent giving?

The Lord Jesus reminds us that our giving is ultimately to the all-seeing heavenly Father.

Jesus said "When you give . . . ; your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you"
(Matthew 6:3-4).
When we give, we are not simply adding to the Church budget, we are giving up a thank offering to the Father Himself. Thus, we must all give "as unto the Lord."

Our ultimate goal in giving is to please Him. Are you conscious of the fact that your giving is to the Lord and seen by the Lord?

LET US PRAY, FATHER IN JESUS NAME, LORD MAKE ME A GIVER AND NOT A BEGGAR IN JESUS NAME

Giving

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: GIVING

The Lord Jesus expects and requires us to give.

Jesus said to His disciples, "when you give" not "if you give" (Matthew 6:2)! Hence, Christian giving is not optional, but rather essential. We often hear folks say: "in the Old Testament they had to give, but not in the New - now we only give if we want to." This is clearly not Jesus' teaching. He expected all His followers to be givers. Christians will give. Are you giving?

The Lord Jesus wants us to give for the right reasons.

Jesus warned His disciples not to give for the sake of being admired by men. "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them," He said (Matthew 6:1).

When we give, we must be careful to examine our motives. We ought to give for the glory of God and the good of His people. We must desire His approval of our giving, rather than the praise and admiration of people.
Are you giving for God's praise or man's?

LET US PRAY
LORD JESUS CHRIST, BLESS ME TO BLESS OTHERS IN JESUS NAME

Living Biblically

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: LIVING BIBLICALLY

1 Thessalonians 1:9

Observe the behavior of the Thessalonians. They not only believed the Bible—they also lived like they believed it. Notice that they: 1) turned to God, 2) served Him, and 3) anticipated His return.

Believe and Behave
James 2:19-20

James emphasizes the importance of both believing and obeying Scripture. Explore the importance of believing what the Bible tells us, and behaving as the Bible tells us. Demons believe the Bible's declaration about the unity of Deity, but are not saved, because they do not obey the command to have faith.

Moral, But Not Biblical
(Mark 10:17-22)

The rich young ruler illustrates the folly of obeying the commands of Scripture without trusting Christ. The rich young ruler was obedient to the Old Testament Law, but he had no relationship with Christ. Although he could be moral, he could not be biblical without Christ.

LET US PRAY
FATHER IN JESUS NAME, GIVE ME GRACE TO PUT IN PRACTICE YOUR COMMANDMENT IN MY LIFE IN JESUS NAME.

Being biblical can be controversial

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Being biblical can be controversial

MATHER 9:10-13

Jesus created a controversy when He spent time with a man who had a reputation for being sinful. This passage is not the only such event in the New Testament. The woman at the well in John 4, the woman who anointed His feet, the woman whose adultery was forgiven, are beneficiaries of the biblical lifestyle of Jesus. Each event was controversial.

Biblical behavior may open us to criticism. Those who do not understand the Bible may not understand such biblical behavior as tithing or evangelism.

They certainly will not understand taking moral positions opposing legalized gambling or abortion, or affirming sexual purity. Whenever biblical behavior involves us in controversy, we should first accept this as God's will in our lives--after all, it was true of Jesus. Secondly, we should respond with grace and kindness. Jesus did not resort to the world's responses when He was involved in controversy.

Being biblical people requires a balance of emotion and action - and it may involve us in some degree of controversy. Believing the Bible alone will not make us biblical people. Isolation from contact with the world will not make us biblical people. An ability to identify the sins of others will not make us biblical people.

We become biblical people when we believe God's word, when we care about people around us, and when we act on their behalf. Controversy does not deter us from biblical living.

LET US PRAY
DEAR LORD JESUS CHRIST, HELP ME TO DO YOUR WILL ALWAYS IN JESUS NAME. AMEN

Being Biblical is Practical

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Being biblical is practical

(Matthew 9:1-33) Not only did Jesus feel compassion, He acted in a practical way to help the people around Him.

In verses 1-8, He healed and forgave a paralytic.
In verse 25 He brought life back into a dead child.
In verse 22, He cured a woman who had suffered for many years.
In verse 30, He gave sight to two blind men.
In verses 37-38, He pressed His disciples to labor in prayer for people who suffer and struggle.

It is important that our emotions be biblical—that we sympathize with people in need. But it is even more important that we act on their behalf.
A Christianity that is not practical, is not biblical. We can be biblical as we help sick people in our congregation, feed poor people in our community, sacrifice to send missionaries to reach lost people, pray faithfully for those in need, look for opportunities to help the helpless around us, and tell lost people about faith in Jesus Christ. Being biblical is being practically involved in lives around us.

LET US PRAY
DEAR LORD JESUS CHRIST. GIVE ME TO GIVE OTHERS. HELP ME TO HELP OTHERS. RAISE ME TO RAISE OTHERS. MAKE ME THE REASON BEHIND OTHERS SMILE IN JESUS NAME.

BEING BIBLICAL

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: BEING BIBLICAL

Matthew 9.

The clearest evidence of what a person believes is revealed by a person's behavior. Politicians, for instance, often claim to believe certain things that their voting records belie.

In Matthew 9, we find Jesus under attack for his lifestyle. He responds by quoting the Bible, specifically Hosea 6:6, and then behaving in a way that was perfectly consistent with what He believed. In so doing, He provided a model for being biblical.

In today's morning meal we will learn how to be biblical people.

1. Being biblical means having biblical emotions (13, 36)

Jesus is attacked for enjoying a party in the home of a new convert. This convert, Matthew, was in a profession (tax collecting) that had acquired a reputation for ungodliness. In response to this attack, Jesus quotes Hosea 6:6, elevating compassion as a hallmark of relationships. Then in v. 36, Jesus models the biblical emotion of compassion.

As we read and study the Bible, it should impact—not only the way we think—but the way we feel about the people and circumstances around us.

A biblical person will feel compassion for those in need.

A biblical person will feel shame for personal sin.

A biblical person will feel joy at his and others' forgiveness and salvation.

Ask yourself am I a Biblical person?

LET US PRAY
FATHER IN JESUS NAME, PLEASE MAKE US HOW YOU WANT US TO BE IN JESUS NAME. AMEN

Jesus redeems what we have distorted

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Jesus redeems what we have distorted

Col. 3:9-10

Every community is somewhat different from the rest. When you move to a new community, take a new job, or transfer to a new school, you learn your new surroundings. Many things look similar, but you soon realize that life isn't quite the same as it was "back home."

There is no greater difference in communities than between the community of Adam and of "Christ". In Colossians 3, Paul reminds them that they have been "delivered from the domain of darkness" and "transferred into the kingdom of his beloved Son" (Col. 1:13).

In Colossians 3, Paul urges believers to "put to death" that which belongs to the Adamic community and "put on" that which belongs to the community of Jesus. He reminds them of the great transfer of citizenship that has taken place, telling them, "you have put on the new self which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator." In our redemption Christ is restoring that which we have distorted - namely, the image of God.

Someday we will once again accurately reflect God's glory as we fully enjoy Him. Jesus has already purchased this promise. It is our task to practice what Christ has already accomplished. As believers we measure our growth by our increasing Christ-likeness.

This is our goal. This truth also motivates us to be messengers of reconciliation in a world fragmented by sin.

LET US PRAY
LORD JESUS CHRIST, LET YOUR REDEMPTION POWER COME IN TO MY LIFE AND MAKE MY LIFE PERFECT

ASK GOD FOR IT

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: ASK GOD FOR IT

If we want God's peace, we need to ask for it
Again, Paul tells us, "Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:6-7).

Notice the order - first prayer and then peace. There's a cause and effect relationship here. Prayer is the cause; peace is the effect.
If you're not praying, you're likely to be worrying.
And worry is such a useless emotion, such a waste. Worry is the opposite of peace; they cannot coexist.

What do you need to ask of God now? Do you need to ask him to come into your life so that you may experience peace with God? Do you need to ask him to control your life so that you can experience the peace of God?

You will not experience true or lasting peace until Jesus Christ is in charge of your life. Peace, remember, is not a trouble-free life; it's a sense of calm in the midst of life's storms.

What is robbing you of peace today? Is it guilt? Turn to God for forgiveness? Is it worry? A job change? Finances? Major surgery? A difficult person?
You can talk to Christ about all of these things and anything else that is bothering you.

The God of all peace wants to give you peace and he is here now ready to make that gift to you. Will you accept it?

LET US PRAY
FATHER IN JESUS NAME, I ASK THAT YOU ENTER IN TO OUR HEART WITH YOUR PEACE IN JESUS NAME.

Trusting in God's purpose

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Trusting God's purpose

If we want God's peace, we must trust God's purpose
Even when things don't make sense, we must trust God's purpose.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths" (Prov. 3:5-6).

Have you noticed that a lot of things in life don't make sense? And do you feel that a lot of things in life are beyond your control? What do you do in such situations? You trust! That's really all you can do. Don't try to figure life out yourself. We do that all the time, don't we? We waste a lot of time and energy trying to figure things out.

God urges us to just trust him.
People have told me on more than a few occasions that when they finally stopped trying to figure out why God allowed something to happen and just started trusting him, and then the peace came.

We need to face the fact that not all of our questions are going to be answered in this lifetime. All you and me need is to trust God's purpose that he God will do it. Amen

FATHER IN JESUS NAME. LET YOUR POWER WORK OUT MY MIRACLE IN JESUS NAME. AMEN

FOCUSING ON GOD'S PRESENCE

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: FOCUSING ON GOD'S PRESENCE

If we want peace, we must focus on God's presence
We must realize that God is always with us, and we must learn to sense his presence. We are reminded by Isaiah to fix our gaze on God, " You will keep in perfect peace the mind [that is] dependent [on You], for it is trusting in You " (Isa. 26:3).

We have a choice of either focusing on our problems of focusing on God, who holds the solution. If you look at the world, you'll be distressed;
if you look within, you'll be depressed; but it you look at Christ, you'll be at rest. It's what you concentrate on that determines your level of personal peace.

LET US PRAY
FATHER IN JESUS NAME. KEEP. MY MIND FOCUS ON YOU ALWAYS IN JESUS NAME. AMEN

How do we maintain peace

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: How do we maintain peace?

The Bible says, "So then, we must pursue what promotes peace and what builds up one another" (Rom. 14:19).

So what must we do?
A. If we want peace, we must obey God's Word

As simple as what it may sound, we need to just do what the Bible says. "Abundant peace belongs to those who love Your instruction; nothing makes them stumble. . . . I obey Your decrees and love them greatly" (Ps. 119:165, 167).

God says peace comes when we live in harmony with him - when we do what he tells us to do.
In your car is an owner's manual. The owner's manual tells you that if you do certain things at certain times, you'll get more mileage out of the car.

God's Word is your owner's manual for life. It contains principles for health, finance, marriage, relationships, business, and much more. If you don't obey the principles as they relate to the various areas of your life you won't experience peace.

Just as a car runs more smoothly when you operate it according to its design, your life will run more smoothly if you live it according to God's design as presented in his Word.

LET US PRAY
FATHER IN JESUS NAME, GIVE ME GRACE TO PUT YOUR WORD IN TO ACTIONS IN MY LIFE.

Emotional peace

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Emotional peace.

This the peace of God
We must have peace with God before we can experience the peace of God - emotional peace. This is what most people think of when they think of the word peace - an internal sense of well-being and order.

The Scriptures say, ". . . since God is not a God of disorder but of peace" (1 Cor. 14:33).

Everyone who knows the Lord Jesus Christ can go through any problem, and face death, and still have the peace of God in his heart. When your spouse dies, or your children get sick, or you lose your job, you can have a peace that you don't understand. This peace is not the absence of conflict, but an ability to cope with the conflicts and frustrations of life. Even in the midst of difficulties God's peace will be present.

Improve upon the Apostle Paul's prescription for human worry. Paul wrote, "Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:6-7).

How many times do you fret and turn, looking for a little peace? God's peace can be in your heart--right now.

"And let the peace of the Messiah, to which you were also called in one body, control your hearts. Be thankful" (Col. 3:15).
The Greek word translated control or rule is used only this one time in the Bible and it means "to umpire." This verse says we should let the peace of God be the umpire in our lives.

What does an umpire do? He keeps the peace. He makes sure the game is played in a smooth and orderly fashion. God wants to give you an internal umpire who will keep you at peace even when everything seems chaotic.

Peace with God speaks of God's Saviorhood, the peace of God speaks of his Lordship. If we truly want to live a life of peace and experience the peace of God continually we must allow Christ to rule and control our lives.

LET US PRAY
DEAR LORD JESUS CHRIST. COME AND RULE MY LIFE WITH YOUR PEACE AND GIVE ME A SETTLED MIND.

Where can we go for peace

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Where can we go for peace?

The Bible talks about two kinds of peace related to God. These two avenues are the beginning of lasting peace for your life.

A. Spiritual peace is peace with God

"Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Rom. 5:1).
That's the foundation, the bottom line. We've got to have peace with God before we can have any other kind of peace.

A man visited his doctor for an examination. The physician asked, "Now, what seems to be the trouble?"
The patient answered: "Doc, I've got troubles everywhere I look. I've got troubles in my business; troubles at home; troubles everywhere - and I'm just plain run down!"
When the examination was finished, the physician said to the patient, "You're not run-down. Just the opposite - you're wound up!"
The man responded, "Well, Doc, give me something to slow me down then."
"What do you want?" asked the doctor.
"Give me a tranquilizer or something."
"Very well," responded the doctor as he sat down and began writing a prescription.

The man took the prescription and stuck it in his pocket without looking at it. He rushed off to the neighborhood drugstore to get the prescription filled. The pharmacist looked at the prescription and said to the man, "I'm sorry, but I can't fill the prescription!"
"What do you mean, you can't fill the prescription!" retorted the man. "This is a drugstore, isn't it? You are a pharmacist, aren't you? That's a doctor's prescription, so why can't you fill it?"

The pharmacist answered, "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't stock this in our store. If you want this prescription filled, go home and get your Bible."
The man looked at the prescription for the first time and read: "Take three doses of Romans 5:1 every day." He went home and looked up the verse in his Bible. It read: "Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Rom. 5:1).

Immediately, the man called the doctor and asked, "What do you mean by this prescription?" The physician answered. "Your trouble is spiritual, not physical. What you need is peace. I can't give it to you; the pharmacist can't give it to you; only God can give you peace."

The fact remains that before you can experience personal peace you must receive the Prince of Peace in your life. How can you do this? Simple. Admit to God that you are a sinner and your sins separate you from God.

Believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son and accept God's gift of forgiveness from sin. Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

LET US PRAY
FATHER LET YOUR TRUE PLACE DOMINATE MY LIFE IN JESUS NAME.

Diezani Cries Out: I Am Suffering From Breast Cancer

Diezani Alison-Madueke is receiving treatment for cancer in the United Kingdom, the former minister of Petroleum Resources has cried out through her lawyer in London.

Her lawyer, Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe said in a statement to Sahara Reporters that the former Minister, who was arrested on corruption-related offences, began treatment for cancer in the UK while she was in office.
Although he did not say what form of cancer she was diagnosed with, he added, “The health crisis has unfortunately exacerbated in recent times.”

For most of her tenure as Minister of Petroleum, Diezani was the subject of unflattering investigations by the media, some of them reporting her lavish champagne-and-chartered jet lifestyle. She was also the subject of investigations in the federal legislature, but she continued to deny being involved in any corrupt deals. She was reportedly trying to be trying to buy a luxury mansion in one of Britain’s most exclusive locations last week when she was arrested.

Sahara Reporters exclusively reported in May that she somehow booked herself on the same London-bound flight of then President-elect Muhammadu Buhari. During the First Class flight, she repeatedly tried to strike up a conversation with Buhari, who ignored her, according to reliable sources in the cabin. She has not returned to Nigeria since fleeing the country only a few days before President Buhari’s inauguration.

In his statement, Mr. Onwudiwe said that her client underwent chemotherapy last week and is scheduled to undergo surgery next week. We could not independently confirm the surgery claims.

UPDATE: Her lawyer, Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe, later revealed that Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has breast cancer and she is undergoing treatment.

Buhari refuses to forgive Saraki: Fight on corruption Must go on

Bukola Saraki is in a dilemma, the move by the Speaker of the House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara, to settle the rift between the Presidency and the Senate President has failed to yield any positive result.

A credible source told OluFamous.Com that President Muhammadu Buhari laughed seriously with his vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, when Dogara tried to be beg him to forgive Saraki so that the case of his false assets declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal could be dropped.

Buhari told them that he can never involve himself in such dirty practice. He told Dogara that Saraki should help himself by resigning if he knows that he has stolen money through fake assets.

It was gathered that at the meeting between President Buhari and Dogara, the Presidency insisted that Saraki must sever his relationship with Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu if he's still in APC.

Findings by PUNCH showed that the development meant the removal of Ekweremadu as the DSP.

It was gathered that removing Ekweremadu was reportedly viewed by The Presidency as one of the possible political moves that could help Saraki to keep his office even if he is cleared at the court.

“The view of the Presidency is that the arrangement in the Senate whereby a PDP senator is the deputy in an APC-led government is a misnomer, which should not be allowed.

“If there is a political option, this is one; the arrangement is not right,” said a senior official.

Saraki Lacks Legal & Moral Standing To Screen The Ministers — Ex-Presidential Candidate

A patriarch of the Aladura Church, Olapade Agoro, has said that Senate President Bukola Saraki lacks the legal and moral authority to preside over the Senate’s screening of ministerial nominees.
Agoro, who was chairman and former presidential candidate of the National Action Council, also stated that it was “an absurdity, abnormality and shame of the principle of rule of law” that the Senate President “currently standing trial for wrong doings bordering particularly on corruption before two legally constituted bodies, Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), would still be seen parading the corridors of power overseeing the conduct of ministerial nominees screening.”

In a statement released today, the NAC official said Mr. Saraki’s behavior was a “charade of shame and hopelessness the type never to be seen allowed in decent societies of the world but ever brazenly allowed only in Nigeria.” He added that Mr. Saraki’s continued role was “a slap in the face of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government anti-corruption change slogan.”

Mr. Agoro asked, “how on earth would one expect good judgment delivery asking an indicted thief to conduct the moral examination of characters of ministerial nominees who are particularly expected to be trusted with the smooth and non-corruptive running of the affairs of a nation?”

According to Mr. Agoro, it is “conscience-challenging for those ministerial nominees to willingly be ready to submit themselves for screening before a man currently of doubtful character standing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.”

The Aladura patriarch contended that, “in the interest of fair play, decency and respect of the rule of law,” Senator Bukola Saraki ought to “immediately step aside overseeing the running of the affairs of the Senate till after the final conclusion of his trial before the CCB and CCT.”He stated that, unless Mr. Saraki stepped aside, he might be compelled to take the Senate President to “the law court asking for an order putting paid to his shameful abrasion of the rule of law.”

Female NYSC Member Rap*d, Killed 2 Weeks To Her Wedding

Just thirteen days to her wedding and 29th birthday, a female corps member, Miss Omolola Abogunrin, has been allegedly murdered by some bad guys.

She was said to have been murdered in the premises of an agriculture research institute located at Apata area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital last Sunday.

The deceased was said to have been rap*d and strangled beside a stream...
Her lover, Olusola Babalola, has since been arrested and detained by the police for interrogation.

Residents said the deceased appeared to be returning from church when she was waylaid by the guys.

“We saw semen in her private part and nail wounds around her neck when we found her corpse. That was an evidence that she was raped and strangulated,” a resident who preferred anonymity told Nation.

A family source said: “Omolola was looking forward to her wedding which was scheduled for October 17, the day she would have been 29 years old. She and her fiancée to be held their family introduction four months ago to pave the way for proper marriage ceremony, scheduled to take place at a Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan.”

The late Omolola graduated from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. She was on the verge of completing her one year National Youth Service Corpse in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, as at the time of her death.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said Omolola’s corpse has since been deposited at the morgue of the Oyo State Hospital, Adeoyo.

He explained that her lover, Mr Babalola, was arrested and detained as part of police investigation.

“The case has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the command. The Command would make sure the killers are brought to book.”

WHY ELECTRICITY TARIFFS WILL RISE – OSINBAJO

Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged the country’s residents to prepare for a rise in electricity tariffs.

He said this on Thursday, October 8, when he spoke at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) meeting, Premium Times reports.

Osinbajo explained why it is not possible to keep the tariffs at the current level and disclosed when the charges might change.

“Power is of course crucial and as the president said in his inaugural address, to which President Mbeki referred, the question of power is one that is absolutely crucial to manufacturing and practically everything else and we shouldn’t be rejoicing at 4000 Megawatts of power. But the problems are historical and several of those problems will need tackling head on, on a day-by-day basis.

“One aspect of the problem that I want to speak about, because this also affects manufacturing, is the whole idea of the tariffs. Of course the president of MAN just said that we have one of the most expensive electricity in the world.

“Now, the truth of the matter is that at this point, if we wanted to have a cost effective tariff, the only way is to service that core value chain, the only way is to ensure that we are paying and compensating the value chain -from generation down to distribution – a cost effective tariff.

“You cannot have that cost effective tariff without some pay. At the moment, (when you compare) how much it costs to produce power, and the amount of power that is generated, the losses on account of distribution are significant. In some cases you have up to 40% losses in distribution, and of course it is the DisCos that have to take that burden.

“The GenCos (generating companies) are producing power but they expect to be paid for all the power that they produce. Now, if 40% of this is lost, it means the DisCos cannot collect 40%, but they have to pay for it somehow. So government has to come in and play some kind of role in order to ensure that the whole value chain is paid for.

“But the most important thing is that the cost of power is reflective of costs that have to be borrowed at every stage of the value chain and today the cost of power, if it’s going to be reflective in any way is simply what it is. It will be very difficult indeed, except if we are going introduce yet another subsidy and by the way, a fair amount of that goes on already in the way that government supports the GenCos and the DisCos.

“But I think that we must be ready to accept that for a while, until things stabilize somewhat, tariffs cannot remain at the levels at which they are today, they cannot remain at that level, and that just simply is the truth of the matter.

“It certainly means that there may be higher costs, but I don’t think that an option of not having power is really what we want. The real issue of course is that at the end of the day, some of the cost goes to the consumer, but a cost reflective tariff is an absolute necessity, otherwise, privatization and all of that simply doesn’t make sense.”

Earlier this week residents of some Lagos areas marched in protest against the electricity bills served by Eko Electricity Distribution Company in Ijora-Badia.

I hate to admit it, but I have, on more than one occasion, watched the once popular reality show "Cheaters". For those who have kept your standards higher for your television viewing pleasure and aren't familiar with the show, the title really captures the essence and class of the program. The show features a broken relationship in which one partner suspects the other of cheating so he/she goes to the "Cheaters" team for help in launching an all out private investigation with video footage, pictures, phone calls, and lots of trashy, uh, I mean classy drama. I feel sick the whole time I am watching these people spy on the suspect and the fights that ensue, but I just can't look away (not a proud moment), In the end, the "Cheaters" team does in fact report the suspect as a cheater and the other partner is devastated. Tragically, their insecurity is proven to be justified.

The scenarios in this show are pretty outrageous because the producers want to attract viewers, but I believe that insecurity, founded AND unfounded, is destroying relationships, especially marriages. Everything we watch on television leaves us prone to question someone's motives or actions, even the ones we love most. Have you ever found yourself driving around random parking lots looking for your spouse's car or even going through his/her phone without your spouse knowing? Have you caught your spouse looking frantically through your things or showing up at places that you frequent? Both situations involve a lack of trust that is rooted in the feeling of insecurity. These feelings may have developed over time due to a spouse's continued pattern of cheating and lying, or you may generally be very hesitant to trust anyone due to past hurts that do not involve your spouse at all. Regardless of the circumstances, feelings of insecurities from either spouse are toxic in a marriage, and they must be addressed and dealt with as soon as possible.

In order for both partners to feel secure in the marriage, we not only need to remain faithful to our spouse (hence, the marital vows), but we also need to remove any barriers in our life that might make our spouse even question if we are worthy of his/her trust. So, what does that look like? Here are just a few things you can do today to make your spouse feel more secure in your marriage:

1. Answer the phone whenever your spouse calls

This may be easier for some and harder for others due to work responsibilities (or, if you are like me, you don't hear it ring because you forgot it was on vibrate), but it is a simple way to improve the communication in your marriage. Don't ignore your spouse's calls! If you can't answer right when he/she calls, send him/her a quick text to let him/her know that you saw the call and will call back when you have the chance. This keeps the line of communication open and is a kind and courteous way to build feelings of security in your marriage.

2. Get off the phone or computer when you are with your spouse

For most of us, including Dave and myself, this is harder than it seems. We use our smartphones to chat with our loved ones, check socical media, and even read our Bibles…all good things, but we still need to put our devices down when we are with our spouses, as much as we possibly can. When we give our spouse our full attention, which means "giving them our eyes and ears" (yes, just like your teacher would say), we are showing them that they are more important than whatever else is on the other side of that screen. This instills a feeling of security and helps us to be better listeners. We also need to do away with any passwords or devices that our spouse is unaware of. Nothing builds insecurity more than secrecy.

3. Watch where your eyes wander

"But I say, anyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:28

Let's face it. We are going to notice an attractive person walking by, and that is okay. We can't cover our eyes in public places, but we can control the amount of time and thought we give to each glance. Let me be specific, when you see that hottie walking by, your eyes don't need to inspect them top to bottom or follow them to where they are going. When we are constantly staring at other men or women or if we make sly comments about how "cute" or "fit" or "pretty" someone else is, we are digging a hole of insecurity in our marriage. You might be telling yourself that this is harmless or innocent simply because you aren't having a physical affair with that person. This is a dangerous lie because when we let our glances become lasting glances, lasting glances turn into thoughts, thoughts become fantasies, and fantasies, outside of your own spouse, destroy marriages.

4. Keep God as the center of your relationship

"A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT

I honestly never thought much about this verse until Dave and I had our premarital counseling, nearly 14 years ago. After one of our sessions, our pastor gave us a rather unusual wedding gift. He handed us a real "triple-braided cord". He then explained the verse and said that this illustrated a strong marriage in which the husband, wife, and God each represent a strand of the cord, with God being the heartiest strand. This kind of cord is hard to break and extremely secure, but the cord as a whole is only as strong as each strand. If one strand is compromised or cut off, the cord looses some of its strength and with enough weight it will eventually fold or break down completely.

The longer I am married and work with married couples, the more I see the truth of this verse played out. I am not sure where you might be in your faith, but I encourage you to make and keep God at the center of your marriage. So, how do we keep God as the primary "strand" in our marriage? We do this by making our personal relationship with Christ a priority. We strive to know him more by going to church and reading our Bibles, and we make prayer a consistent part of our daily lives. When we keep our relationship with God as our top priority, our mind and hearts are more prepared to approach our spouse with the love and devotion he/she deserves, and we essentially keep our strands connected to the "master strand" and our "cord", or marriage, remains stronger. When we believe in God and accept his son, Jesus, as our Lord and Savior, we receive the ultimate form of security that no person can destroy and we certainly don't need to question. We receive God's love and grace.

Love entails a cost

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Love entails a cost

It gets its hands dirty. It takes a chance. It goes out on a limb. It takes a gamble. Love makes a statement and leaves a legacy. It does the unexpected, surprising, and stirring. It performs acts that steal the heart and leaves an impression on the soul. Often these acts are never forgotten.

I heard a story about the founder of World Vision, the international Christian relief agency. Bob Pierce had advanced leukemia, but he chose to visit a colleague in Indonesia before he died. As he and others walked together through a small village, they came upon a young girl lying on a bamboo mat next to a river. She was dying of cancer and had only a short time to live.

Bob was indignant. He demanded to know why she wasn't in a clinic. But his friend explained that she was from the jungle and wished to spend her last days next to the river, where it was cool and familiar.
As Bob gazed at her, he felt such compassion that he got down on his knees in the mud, took her hand, and began stroking it. Although she didn't understand him, he prayed for her. Afterwards she looked up and said something, "What did she say? Bob asked his friend.
His friend replied, "She said, 'If I could only sleep again, if I could only sleep again.'" It seemed that her pain was too great to allow her the relief of rest.

Bob began to weep. Then he reached into his pocket and took out his own sleeping pills, the ones his doctor had given him because the pain from his leukemia was too great for him to sleep at night.
He handed the bottle to his friend. "You make sure this young lady gets a good night's sleep," he said, "as long as these pills last."

Bob was ten days away from where he could get his prescription refilled. That meant ten painful and restless nights. That day his love cost him greatly. But even in the midst of his suffering, God infused him with a supernatural sense of satisfaction that he had done the right thing.

I'm not saying that we should constantly abuse ourselves or become passive doormats. But Christian love inevitably carries costs. Even when the cost is high, we can nevertheless count on God to bring fulfillment to His followers. True love always costs. If there is no cost there is no love.

LET US PRAY
LORD JESUS OPEN MY EYE TO KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THE RIGHT TIME FOR LOVE AND IN MY RELATIONSHIP, IN JESUS NAME.

Love is vulnerable to the other

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Love is vulnerable to the other

In other words, love opens up its life to another person. It goes beyond sentimental feelings. It breaks down barriers. It exposes the heart.

Think about Jesus. He left the glory of heaven to come to earth. He veiled His divinity and took on humanity. And what did it get him? "He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him" (John 1:11).
Can you imagine being away on a business trip for a week, coming home, and your family not recognizing you?

That's similar to what Jesus experienced when he came to earth. Surely that must have hurt. Then, as Jesus hung on the cross, dying for these people that he loved, they hurled abuses, scorn, and ridicule. His heart was broken. And yet, He forgave them.

Christian love is the most costly investment you will ever make. C. S. Lewis, in The Four Loves, describes the vulnerable nature of love.

"To love is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries. Avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, airless - it will change. It will not be broken. Instead, it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.

LET US PRAY
DEAR LORD JESUS, TEACH US TO LOVE LIKE YOU IN JESUS NAME. AMEN.

Demonstrate the virtue of love

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Demonstrate the virtue of love

How do we demonstrate the distinctiveness of Christian love? Because virtue is moral action we practice, How can we practice the glorious virtue of love?

Love values the other person
Let's not confuse Christian love with its modern counterfeits - lust, sentimentality, and gratification. While love is a wonderful, warm feeling, it is not only a feeling. In fact, according to the Bible, love is primarily an active interest in the well-being of another person. Love acts for the benefit of others.

According to William Barclay love "is the spirit in the heart that will never seek anything but the highest good of its fellow man."

God loved us not because we had something to offer him, but rather because He had something to offer us. " John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God loved us so that He could demonstrate His mercy to us in the person of His Son.

I heard a story about Dr. W.A. Criswell, former pastor of First Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas, officiated at a lot of weddings. The nervous groom would always say, "Dr. Criswell, how much do I owe you for this?" And he'd always smile and look at the groom and say, "Aw, just pay me what she's worth." laugh.... Dr. Criswell made a lot of money from weddings, because to each man his new bride was of extravagant value.

In like manner, everyone around us is of incredible value to God as a potential object of His mercy. His one and only Son died in their place. Because people matter so much to him, they ought to matter to us. And, we, therefore, need to love them as he loves them.

LET US PRAY
IN JESUS NAME, LORD HELP ME TO LOVE OTHERS IN YOUR WAY AND RIGHTEOUSLY IN JESUS NAME.

DEMOSTRATING CHRIST LOVE

TOPIC: DEMOSTRATING CHRIST LOVE.

When we demonstrate Christian love, it distinguishes believers from the rest of the world. Jesus goes on to say, "By this [love] all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:35).

Notice Jesus did not say that people will know that you are my disciples if you promote my agenda, or wear Christian T-shirts or a WWJD bracelet, or have a fish decal on your car, but rather if you love one another.

A watching world will be persuaded not when our values are promoted but when they are incarnated, when we become purveyors of love. It is as though Jesus has given the entire world the right to judge whether or not one is His follower simply on the basis of their love for fellow human beings. The vivacious virtue of love distinguishes the Christian.

From the very beginning, God's plan was to develop a people that reflected his character. And what is his character? Love. "God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. In this, love is perfected with us so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; for we are as He is in this world" (1 John 4:16-17).

Believers are God's advertisement to a watching society as to how individuals could best live in that society. In fact, Christian love will always be the best apologetic that the church has.

When Ira Gillett, missionary to East Africa, returned home to report on his activities overseas, he related an interesting phenomenon. Repeatedly, Gillett had noticed how groups of Africans would walk past government hospitals and travel many extra miles to receive medical treatment at the missionary compound.
He finally asked a particular group why they walked the extra distance when the same treatments were available at the government clinics. The reply: "The medicines may be the same but the hands are different.

That's the virtue of love incarnated. That kind of love makes a difference. Christ has no hands, but our hands; no feet, but our feet. We are his ambassadors, representing him to the world.
And when we love as he as loved us, it will make the difference. People will notice. Christian love is indispensable.

FATHER IN HEAVEN, TEACH US TO LOVE OTHERS AS YOU DO IN JESUS NAME

Understand the importance of love

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Understand the importance of love

When Jesus spoke to the disciples regarding the first and second greatest commands, he explained that "All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands" (Matt. 22:40).

To the people of Israel, as well as for many believers today, it would seem more logical for obedience to be the peg from which the Law hangs, since the point of writing a law is adherence to it. And it is written, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments" (John 14:15).

Yet Jesus also said, "I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another" (John 13:34). The apostle Paul goes on to tell us "Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law" (Rom. 13:10).

This may sound irrelevant to our generation that depends on police departments, guns, and force to uphold and fulfill the law. Yet Jesus' simple command requires greater strength than any of us naturally possess - more power than any man-made weapon.

The logic of Paul's interpretation of Jesus' command that love fulfills the Law seems equally simple. For if one loves his neighbor, he will not commit adultery with his neighbor's spouse. If he loves his coworker, he will not lie to him. And if loves his enemy, he will not slander him. Love fulfills the law, because if we truly love every person because he is a person, we will not desire to hurt or violate him or her, thus never break the law. God established love as the impetus for obedience.

LET US PRAY
DEAR LORD JESUS, TEACH US TO DEMONTRATE TRUE LOVE IN OUR NATIONS, HOME AND CHURCHS.
AMEN

Make love priority

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Make love a priority

Indeed loving people is difficult. Yet this is what the Bible commands. "For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: we should love one another" (1 John 3:11).

We spend time on what we deem important. For many of us these choices are valid: time with family and friends, work, prayer, serving the poor, fighting for rights, protesting wrongs. But as the Scripture reminds us, "And if I donate all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing" (1 Cor. 13:3).

Even though we have the freedom to set our own priorities, Jesus made a point of defining certain ones of them for us: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'" (Matt. 22:37-39).

Love, then, is not a gray area the Scriptures. Jesus gave love priority over all other Christian virtues. Every thought, response, and act of goodwill must first pass through the fine filter of love, or it means nothing at all.

In "Strength to Love", Martin Luther King, Jr., encouraged us to realize that "our responsibility as Christians is to discover the meaning of this command and seek passionately to live it out in our daily lives."

LET US PRAY
DEAR LORD JESUS, GIVE ME STRENGTH TO LOVE OTHERS AS YOU COMMANDED IN JESUS NAME
