TOPIC: Is speaking in tongues from God or the devil?

The most important thing you need to know about speaking in tongues is what Jesus said about it, and He did not mince His words in Mark 16:17: "And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues." Jesus declared that tongues is a supernatural sign that can and should accompany everyone who believes in Him. God does not give His children any bad gifts, so we shouldn't fear or ridicule the gift of tongues.

When we talk about tongue, devil too has his tongue, but he is only copying and mimicking Christianity to deceive baby in Christ, demonic tongue are not from God and doesn't carry fire neither does it has the backing of God Almighty

THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTIONS

As from now till next week by God's grace I will be dealing with all the questions that comes to me at the cause of the teaching of speaking in tongues. God bless you all.

As with any spiritual gift we do not have the ability to speak in tongues naturally, but it is one of many special gifts from God – like a tool which He enables us to use so that He is glorified and the church is strengthened.

In 1 Corinthians 12:27-31 the Apostle Paul explains that God gives a variety of different gifts to the church. Nobody has all of them, but everybody is given some.

Most of the gifts are given to build up other Christians, but ‘tongues’ is a gift that encourages the person who speaks unless interpretation is also given so that the church can understand what has been said:

“He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.” 1 Corinthians 14:4-6 (NIV)

Do read 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 through slowly and carefully to understand the logic of what the apostle Paul is teaching.

There have been some misunderstandings about the use of speaking in tongues. While the early church recognised tongues as a sign that somebody was a believer in Jesus, it does not make a person a Christian, nor does every Christian have that gift. Neither is it the only evidence that someone is filled with the Holy Spirit; because we read that every believer in Christ has the Holy Spirit:

“You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” Romans 8:9 (NIV)

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14 (NIV)

Neither are tongues evidence of being ‘super-spiritual’ because it is possible to speak in tongues and not have a heart full of God’s love: 1 Corinthians 13:1 says, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” (NIV)

But the Apostle Paul does not despise tongues: “I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.” 1 Corinthians 14:5 (NIV) and also see 1 Corinthians 14:18.

There is nothing you have to do in order to be able to speak in tongues because it is not a human ability! It is a gift that God will give you if it is His will and your desire.

Speaking in tongues is not a right for all Christians. But what is to be expected is that God will graciously give you gifts that He knows will help you to build up His body (the church). It is up to you under the guidance of your church leaders to discover what those God given gifts are. If you eagerly desire the greater gifts and are asking God out of a genuine motivation to glorify Him and build up His church then why would He not equip you for His service?

However if you seek to use gifts for your own ends – gaining a better standing in the church, for example, then you will need to revisit 1 Cor. chapters 13&14. We read there that the greatest gift of all is love. Where love comes first the desire for gifts is to glorify Christ and serve His church:

“Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.” 1 Corinthians 14:1 (NIV)

TOPIC: PROBLEM OF THE INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES AND ITS UNDERSTANDING

One of the problems in the church of Corinth was that tongues-speakers were speaking out in the service, exercising their gift of tongues with no interpreter and with no one present who spoke that language.
The result was that the tongues-speaker was commanding attention, but his words were meaningless, since no one could understand him. Paul strongly advised that all use of tongues in the church must be interpreted:

“In the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue” (1 Corinthians 14:19).

There was no benefit to other church members in hearing something they could not understand. Exercising the gift of tongues in church, simply for the sake of showing everyone that you had the gift, was conceited and unprofitable. Paul told the Corinthians that, if two or three tongues-speakers wanted to speak in a meeting, then a spiritually gifted tongues-interpreter must also be present. In fact, “if there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God” (1 Corinthians 14:28).

The temporal nature of the gift of tongues implies that the gift of interpretation of tongues was also of a temporal nature.
If the gift of speaking in tongues were active in the church today,

1. It would be performed in agreement with Scripture.

2. It would be a real and intelligible language (1 Corinthians 14:10).

3. It would be for the purpose of communicating God’s Word to a person of another language (Acts 2:6–12), and

4. It would be done “in a fitting and orderly way” (1 Corinthians 14:40), “for God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people” (1 Corinthians 14:33).

Along with the gift of speaking in tongues is another spiritual gift mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:10—the gift of interpreting tongues. The gift of interpreting tongues is the ability to translate a foreign language into the language of the hearers. The gift of interpreting tongues is a separate gift, but it seems to have been used in conjunction with the gift of speaking in tongues.

The gift of tongues was the supernatural ability to speak a foreign language that the tongues-speaker had never learned. We see this gift in use in Acts 2:4–12, as the Jews in Jerusalem heard the gospel preached in a wide variety of languages. A person with the gift of interpreting tongues, then, could understand what a tongues-speaker was saying even though he did not know the language being spoken.

This lack of prior knowledge of a language is what distinguishes the spiritual gift from the natural gift of being able to understand and speak a variety of languages. The tongues-interpreter would hear the tongues-speaker and then communicate the message to anyone present who could not understand the language.

The goal was that all could understand and benefit from the truth being spoken. According to the apostle Paul, and in agreement with the tongues described in Acts, the gift of tongues was meant to communicate God’s message directly to another person in his or her native language. Of course, if those present could not understand the language being spoken, the tongues were useless—and that’s what made the tongues-interpreter, or tongues-translator, necessary. The goal was the edification of the church (1 Corinthians 14:5, 12).

Is the gift of tongues for today?

TOPIC: IS THE GIFT OF TONGUES FOR TODAY ?

First Corinthians 13:8 mentions the gift of tongues ceasing, although it connects the ceasing with the arrival of the “perfect” in 1 Corinthians 13:10. Some point to a difference in the tense of the Greek verbs referring to prophecy and knowledge “ceasing” and that of tongues “being ceased” as evidence for tongues ceasing before the arrival of the “perfect.” While possible, this is not explicitly clear from the text.

Some also point to passages such as Isaiah 28:11 and Joel 2:28-29 as evidence that speaking in tongues was a sign of God's oncoming judgment.

First Corinthians 14:22 describes tongues as a “sign to unbelievers.” According to this argument, the gift of tongues was a warning to the Jews that God was going to judge Israel for rejecting Jesus Christ as Messiah.
Therefore, when God did in fact judge Israel (with the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in A.D. 70), the gift of tongues would no longer serve its intended purpose. While this view is possible, the primary purpose of tongues being fulfilled does not necessarily demand its cessation. Scripture does not conclusively assert that the gift of speaking in tongues has ceased.

At the same time, if the gift of speaking in tongues were active in the church today, it would be performed in agreement with Scripture.

1. It would be a real and intelligible language (1 Corinthians 14:10).

2 It would be for the purpose of communicating God's Word with a person of another language (Acts 2:6-12).

3. It would be in agreement with the command God gave through the apostle Paul, “If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God” (1 Corinthians 14:27-28).

4. It would also be in accordance with 1 Corinthians 14:33, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

We shall be going in this direction this week as one of the reader of IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL ask me this important question about Speaking of tongue.

The first occurrence of speaking in tongues occurred on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-4. The apostles went out and shared the gospel with the crowds, speaking to them in their own languages: “We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” (Acts 2:11). The Greek word translated tongues literally means “languages.” Therefore, the gift of tongues is speaking in a language a person does not know in order to minister to someone who does speak that language. In 1 Corinthians chapters 12–14, Paul discusses miraculous gifts, saying, “Now, brothers, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction?” (1 Corinthians 14:6).

According to the apostle Paul, and in agreement with the tongues described in Acts, speaking in tongues is valuable to the one hearing God’s message in his or her own language, but it is useless to everyone else unless it is interpreted/translated.

A person with the gift of interpreting tongues (1 Corinthians 12:30) could understand what a tongues-speaker was saying even though he did not know the language that was being spoken. The tongues interpreter would then communicate the message of the tongues speaker to everyone else, so all could understand. “For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says” (1 Corinthians 14:13).

Paul’s conclusion regarding tongues that were not interpreted is powerful: “But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue” (1 Corinthians 14:19).

As we move further in our teaching, if you have been following, we stopped yesterday at point 7.
Let's continue "How to Develop Faith.

8. Speak the WORD. By saying with your mouth you exercise your faith, you hear the Word and you build it into your life. God’s Word is anointed and has power when it is spoken to change the spiritual atmosphere (Joshua 1:8; Romans 10:10). Confession of God’s Word (saying the same thing as God’s word) brings you into the place where the Lord will move to fulfil it (Hebrews 3:1). The angels hearken to the voice of God’s Word (Psalms 103:20)

9. Seek holiness, purity of heart. “Pursue peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14).

It is with the heart that man believes (Romans 10:10). To the extent that the heart has uncleanness, unforgiveness and other bad conditions within, the man will lose the spiritual perception of the Lord which enables his heart to believe. Purity and faith feed each other.

Your faith will grow as you put all this points into your daily life

6. Develop a life of praise and worship. Praise drives the powers of darkness away and brings the throne of God into your circumstances. Praising God is an act of faith and helps your faith to grow. It is commanded (Hebrews 13:15). Worship is admiring God through the Spirit. If you can perceive who is God, His power, faithfulness and love your trust and faith in Him will grow.

7. Spend as much time as you can with people of faith. The spirit of faith on them will touch your life also (Proverbs 13:20).

4. Obey God and the conviction of the Holy Spirit. It is as you walk that you gain strength. God will not reveal greater things to you until you are faithful in the things He is showing you NOW. Therefore obedience to the Spirit and what He is showing you through the Word or through your conscience is important in the development of your faith. You cannot have living faith without taking some practical steps of obedience. Act on what God is saying!

5. Give thanks. Give thanks for the results before you see. Don’t complain – that shows you doubt God’s love and God’s answer to your situation. Give thanks in all situations
(1 Thessalonians 5:18).

When you put all this point in mind and in practice in your life you will see your faith growing and things we become easy spiritually as you grow in faith

I started to teach us about how to Develop our faith since yesterday of which I gave just one point, today I will tell you two point.

2. Realise that every believer has been given a measure of faith by God. (Romans 12:3). We just have to use and develop what God has given. We must put it into action.

3. Pray in tongues and be full of the Spirit (Jude 20). We will look at this later. If you have been baptised in the Spirit as the disciples were in the book of Acts, you should pray and praise in tongues often because through this you “edify yourself” (1 Corinthians 14:4) and “build yourself up in your most holy faith”. Praying in tongues is a key to being full of the Spirit. Since faith is a fruit of the Spirit, all things things are related together.

5. IN PARTICULAR, FAITH IS THE MAJOR KEY FOR AN EFFECTIVE HEALING AND DELIVERANCE MINISTRY.

Jesus Christ “the same yesterday, today and forever” lives in the Christian (Hebrews 13:8, Galatians 2:20), and through the Christian wants to reveal the power of salvation to men in a way they can see and feel. In this way, our evangelism concerning the Kingdom of God will not be in talk, but in power (1 Corinthians 4:20).

If God had giving you an assignment in this world faith is needed if not there is bound to be a misleading, this is one of the reason why some people who are in the ministry for the lord turned to do charm to help them self, when they lack faith to make things happen in the name of the Lord.
With faith charm is useless, there is power in having faith in the power of God, there is nothing as "helping God".

(Ephesians 2:8,9). This includes healing, prosperity, peace, love, joy (1 Peter 1:8), deliverance from demons and the curse, sanctification of the mind and emotions (the salvation of the soul) and any other benefit which the word of God promises to us.

4. FAITH IS A SPIRITUAL FORCE THROUGH WHICH OUR MINISTRY FOR CHRIST BECOMES EFFECTIVE.
(Mark 11:23; Matthew 17:19,20). Faith is a major key to ministry success. It brings to you what you need for your ministry, and by imparting it to others through your life and your ministry of God’s Word, you enable them to receive the blessings of God’s grace mentioned above.

We need hope for the future

TOPIC: WE NEED HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.

If the Lord tarried we all shall go through the experience of Death.. You can stay away from Church, you can fail to read your Bible, you can say no to the Holy Ghost, you can reject Christ’s offer of Salvation. But there is one agent and officer of God that you cannot put off. The Angel of Death will claim us all. When God sends him to write the "END" to life, you cannot push him away. You cannot say "Come back tomorrow or next week." You are powerless against the Death Angel. Hebrews 9::27, says, "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this is the judgment."

When the doctors and nurses cannot help you, "Jesus is all that you need". You can have Him on your side when you need Him most. He said, "I will never leave us nor forsake us.

He will be with us even when we walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death. He is the King and Conqueror of Death; so there is no fear for the Christian who has Jesus on their side.

As Christians we may have very little in this world, But we are rich in Hope. And that Hope is free for the asking. Jesus says, "Put your trust in Me." He will forgive us for the past. He will help and guide us through our present life. He will give us Hope for the Future.

"JESUS IS ALL THAT YOU NEED"

Peter tells us in my text that the choice of Salvation is not optional! For he said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou are the words to eternal life." Only Jesus can give us Salvation. Acts 4:12 says, "Neither is there salvatio in any other; for there in none other Name under Heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved." Salvation comes only from God and Jesus was God in the Flesh.

The salvation question is already settled. Peter said, "Thou hast the words." We must go to Jesus Christ for the Blessed Assurance and Security. St John 10:27-29 says, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them to me, is greater that all. And no man is able to pluck them out of my father’s hand."

TOPIC: WE NEED STRENGTH AND GUIDANCE FOR OUR PRESENT LIFE.

Some people go to Fortune-Teller for guidance; some call the Physic Network; some write to newpaper columnist for Hyroscopes and some consult their friends. Now we all are human and no human being can give us perfect guidance. No one knows what tomorrow may bring; no one can look into the future.

But the Holy Bible tells, us where to seek guidance. James 1:5 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and unbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Jesus knows our Past, our Present, and our Future. There is no uncertainty in Him. He sees the end from the beginning to the end. There is nothing that come upon us that is not known to Him. And because He knows all about us He can help us.

Before a person is converted he has temptation on every side; together with sorrow and heartaches. After conversion you may still have these things, but there is a difference now. Before conversion you we all alone as you faced these things; after conversion you have someone to help you. The Lord Jesus Christ. He is all that you need!

Whatever you need today, Jesus is ready to supply it. Jesus is alive. He is real. He can help us when life problem become too complexed and life burden become too heavy.

We need forgiveness for our past

TOPIC: WE NEED FORGIVENESS FOR OUR PAST.

As we look over our past we all can see one sin after another along the way. If nothing is done about our sin, we would forever be separated from the presence of God and would be thrown into an eternal hell.

Sin is like a great rock tied around our neck, pulling us down into the depth of the sea. Only Christ can cut the rope that is cause us to drown; only Christ can rescue us from destruction and death. Sin is like a cloud between us and God. Only Christ can melt that cloud and enable us to see the face of God.

Jesus was in Capernaum, preaching in a certain house, when four men went out and brought a sick man and placed him before Jesus.

Jesus said to the sick man....."Thy sins are forgiven thee" Mark2:5. The crowd began to murmur and someone said, "That Blasphemy, only God can do that, only God can forgive sin. But Jesus was God in the Flesh and the power to forgive sin was invested in Him. To prove this point He healed the man and sent him on his way.

The church cannot forgive sin! The Priest cannot forgive sin! The preacher cannot forgive sin. Only God can forgive sin and Jesus was God in the Flesh.

John tells us that only the Blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God can cleanse us from all sin. 1 John 1:7. And because of that cleansing we are able to reign with God and Jesus in Heaven. Jesus’s Blood was sufficient enough for us. Jesus is all that we need.

TOPIC: JESUS IS ALL THAT YOU NEED

St John 6:66-69

"From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with Him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Philippians 4:13

"I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me."

One day the Apostle Paul looked out upon life. And he thought about all of the problems that we have. He thought about all of the troubles that we go through. He thought about all of the burden that we bear. And he then said, "Who is sufficient for these things?

2 Corinthian 2:16.

There is only one answer to this question. No human being, no matter how great they are, can meet every need in our life. But there is one who can meet our every need. His name is Jesus Christ. He is a n Adequate and all-sufficient Savior. He can meet our every need in life. In Him and with His help we can face up to life and all of its problems.

Our text today take place just after Jesus had fed the five thousand. He had proven that He could meet man’s physical needs. Now the crowds began to gather around Him. They cared nothing about Him, but just for what He could do for them.

They were not interesting in Him as a Savior, they simply wanted something for nothing. So Jesus preached a sermon to them; a sermon in which He appealed for them to surrender their lives; a sermon in which He demanded that they give instead of receive.

They were willing to follow Him as long as He was feeding them and requiring nothing in return. But when He began to tell them what would be required and expected of them if they continued to follow Him; the great crowd turned away and went back to the world. It’s the same way Today.

Let a pastor or preacher preach about the free grace of God; let him tell of all that a man receive as a Christian; let him tell of Heaven and the joy in the bye and bye, and men will follow Him and call him a great preacher.

But let him call upon people to forsake the world and follow Jesus; let him ask for money for the work of Gospel; let him ask them to go out into the highways and hedges to witness for Christ and the majority will turn their backs and walk away.

It is easy for some people to say "AMEN" when the preacher speaks about what Christ gives us, but they are strangely silent when he speaks of what we should give Christ or the Preacher.

Muzzle not the ox that thread the corn. And elder that rule well is due doubt honor. If you give a prophet a drink when he’s thirty you will receive a prophet reward in return.

Yes, as the crowd began to leave Jesus sadly turned to His disciples and said, "Will you also go away? And bold Peter who often say the wrong things, said the right thing this time. He said, "Lord to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words to eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou are the Christ, the Son of the Living God! John 6:68-69

The Bible says "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

There is an accuser of the brethren who accuses us day and night before our Heavenly Father, so that God will reign judgement on us and not visit us with mercy (Revelation 12:10).
Luke 13:4 says "Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?" So many people have done terrible things and should have died in their sins, but their being alive today is only by the mercies of God.

Many people don't deserve the wealth God has given them, or the healing and deliverance God has bestowed upon them. In Acts Chapter 5, we see that just one lie told by Ananias and Sapphira led to their instant death. They were not candidates of God's mercy.
You are alive today because the mercy of God has kept you. Thank God for His mercy upon your life but don't take it for granted.

Where you have been forsaking, useless and abandoned to die mercy will find you and give you a ground shaking testimony in Jesus Name

Mercy overlooked

TOPIC: MERCY OVERLOOK

Paul (formerly known as Saul): God wanted to use Paul, but the law through Prophet Ananias protested because Paul had been persecuting and killing Christians; and compelling them to blaspheme (Acts 26:11).
Paul didn't deserve to become an Apostle of Jesus but God showed him mercy, and told Ananias He would use Paul and visit him with mercy (Acts 9:13-15).

Jacob: He was a trickster who didn't deserve the mercy of God. He was a liar, he consciously did everything wrong. In Genesis 32:10, he said "I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands." Jacob knew he was not worthy of God's mercy.

Whichever way you too has thought you didn't deserve Gods mercy because of your past, I want you to know that everyone deserve God's mercy inasmuch as you acknowledge Jesus as your lord and savior,

No matter how bad and worsen your past must has been, mercy of God will rewrite your story and make your life meaningfully great and jealously productive in Jesus Name

Power of Mercy

TOPIC: POWER OF MERCY

Naaman the Syrian received God's mercy: He was a leper who came to Israel for healing and he was instructed to go to River Jordan and wash.
But he asked "Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? May I not wash in them, and be clean?" After asking, he turned and went away in a rage. However, God in His mercy overlooked his insolence and healed him (2 Kings 5:12).

Luke 4:27 says "And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian." Inspite of the act that he was a Syrian, God still singled him out for healing.

If God were to consider our sins, many of us would not be alive today; but He has chosen to overlook our faults and have mercy on us.

LET US PRAY
My prayer is that, in this month of the LORD's mercies, you will receive His mercy in Jesus Mighty Name.

[24] But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. [25] Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. [26] But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. [27] And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. [28] Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

What Is Mercy?

Mercy means giving you what you do not deserve. It means withholding punishment that you deserve. Mercy also means unmerited favour, an act of kindness or compassion. The woman and her daughter in our reference Scripture did not qualify for Jesus' intervention because of their pedigree, but God withheld punishment and blessed them with the blessings they do not deserve.

LET US PRAY
I prophesy into your life that this month, God will give you things that you did not deserve. God will overlook your faults and withhold punishment from you in Jesus Mighty Name.

[23] But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

Jesus was silent possibly because she was not a Jew, hence, she was not entitled to the benevolence she was requesting. Looking at the Scripture, Jesus answered her in Matthew 15:26 when He said "It is not right (proper, becoming, or fair) to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs." In Matthew 10:5-6, when Jesus sent out His disciples and charged them to "Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." He made them understand that salvation was for the Jews first, as the dispensation of the Gentiles had not come. Paul says in Romans 1:16 that the Gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jews first and to the Gentiles. Salvation was first for the Jews, so this woman was not qualified for divine intervention because she was a gentile. Everything was against her. Though She called Jesus the Son of David but He is more than that. The divine intervention she wanted for her daughter was reserved for the children of God and not for dogs (Matthew 15:26). This woman's state can be likened to those who are not yet born-again which Ephesians 2:11-12 [KJV] refers to; "Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world." This woman was a stranger from the Covenant of Promise. Hence, if you don't know Jesus Christ as your personal LORD and Saviour, your situation is hopeless. It doesn't matter if you think you are doing well right now, it is only the blessings of the Lord that maketh rich and adds no sorrow.

Since it appeared the woman was not getting through to Jesus; she appealed to the mercy of God. She told Jesus "Have mercy on me..."

Mark 1:35-39

We see Jesus being attacked by the devil at every turn: chapter1:14, John the Baptist is imprisoned; vs.24, evil spirits speaks lies against him, "Have you come to destroy us?" It reads as if one thingafter another confronts Jesus as he starts his earthly ministry. Thereis no time to stop, no time to rest. There is so much to be done as weread in vs. 33-34, "he drove out many demons, he healed many who were sick."

Jesus is fighting against the power of Satan. How does Jesus remain strong in that battle? We need to know because the battle still goes on today.

You are fooling yourself, you are being fooled by Satan if you think everything is fine. We still face persistent temptation and attack by Satan.
Events like sickness, trouble, pain, hardship, disappointment, even death. These are constant struggles in this sin-filled world.

Where do we get the strength to stand against this attack, to keep fighting the good fight of faith?

Where does Jesus get the strength? We might think of him as some kind of super hero: The Son of God. He has super powers and just keeps going. Of course it is true that Jesus as Son of God is the greatest, the most powerful person who ever lived. He demonstrates his divine power in healing, casting out demons, even raising the dead (Mark 5). But we need to remember that Jesus was also completely human. He was "like us in every way" the author of Hebrews tells us, except he was without sin. (Heb 4:15).

Here in Mark 1 we see the importance for Jesus to do the work he is doing, to stand against the devil, to overcome the flood of sin and evil in the world, to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Jesus needs to be strong in that communion with God. Jesus takes the time to pray.

How much time do you spend in personal devotions? I’m afraid the devil has succeeded in convincing many here that it is not important. Or maybe we can agree it is important but for you there is really no time. Many here do the equivalent of no devotions. No personal devotions, No prayer, No Bible reading,
No time in the week, so you feel weak, you are weak. Weak in the faith, weak in prayer, with little Bible knowledge, little sense of God working in your life, powerless before the temptations and attacks of the devil. Busy all right. The devil has you busy being "ineffective and unproductive." (2 Peter 1:8)

You can tell if you are this kind of a weak believer if you do not have a special time set aside. The Bible is speaking to you today. Jesus is demonstrating for you the importance of setting aside a time, a special time.
Maybe you think you are strong enough in the faith, you can manage without a special devotional time. Don’t you think Jesus was tempted that way by Satan too? Satan could say, "You are the son of God, you know what you are about, you don’t need it." We are so quickly tempted. We feel we know it all. We don’t need to study the Bible more. We have better things to do. We are busy.

Jesus took a special time. Perhaps you can start with 10 minutes in the morning or at the end of the day, or maybe even in between somewhere. Take the Bible, some devotional material, read and pray. Get in tune with God. Consider his will for you, for your relationship to your spouse, kids, family, in church. Start now, start today, decide right now, pick a time.

David’s enemies had increased greatly. Trouble was all around. They mocked his faith in God and said, “Who can help him now?” But David knew the secret of deliverance from trouble. He cried to the Lord and found Him to be a present help in time of trouble.
You, too, will experience God’s power as you call on Him in your time of anguish and fear, for you will find Him to be your shield and the lifter of your head. And as you seek Him, He will fill you with His peace and cause your sleep to be sweet as He holds you in His arms and sustains you.
Truly great peace belongs to those who know how to call upon the Lord.

A Place of deliverance

Job 28:9 tells us that God puts forth His hand upon the rock and overturns mountains by the roots: It is only as we pray that obstacles are revoked from our path. It is there He makes for us a way of escape and sends His power to bring us out:
“He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing (verse 10).

It is as we seek Him that He binds floods from overflowing over our lives, protecting and keeping us, revealing to us His love and His will, for the thing that is hid, He brings forth to light:
“He bindeth the floods from overflowing, and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light” (verse 11).

Prayer is the only place of protection, deliverance, and revelation:

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. (Psalm 91:1-7)

Through the prophet Jeremiah, God sent us His royal invitation and said,
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3).

Dangers and trials will come our way, but if we obey the command of Proverbs 27:12, we cannot be defeated or overcome. We will prevail, for none who prays ever fails:

“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.”
Only as we hide in God—not like Adam who hid from God—can we find continual safety from harm. For God in His great love will warn us of coming dangers, yet He expects us to beware and hide in Him. Only the prudent know how to pray. The foolish neglect God and are punished.

“And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me”(Psalm 50:15).

Secret place

Do you realize that movements on earth govern movements in heaven? Do you realize that a child of God in prayer affects decisions in heaven? The Lord declared:
“Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Matthew 18:18).

So awesome is this power that it releases angels to do God’s bidding on the earth and binds demons as it destroys the purpose of the enemy!

PRAYER – A Place of Supernatural Protection
Job tells us there is a secret place, known and available only to God’s children. And when God’s children enter into it, only then is the power of God activated on their behalf and on behalf of those in desperate need:

“There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen: The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it” (Job 28:7-8).

There is a path, a place which no fowl knows. That place is the secret place, that glorious place so secure and protected that no demonic power can find it. It is a place hidden in God that no vulture’s eye has seen. No demon on earth or satan, the enemy of our souls, has seen or knows. It is a place of refuge, a place of safety that no lion’s whelps (principalities and powers) pass by—not even the lion, satan. That place is the place of prayer. The psalmist tells us it is in that secret place that you will find the Lord to be your refuge and fortress, and it is in that secret place that He covers you with His wings so that no evil will befall you nor will any plague come nigh to your dwelling. That secret path, that secret place is prayer.

Yesterday morning meal was for the youth preparing to get married and questioned they need to ask each other, and I believe it has blessed many, I am forwarding this for the wedded couple as well to balance the equation for a better and sweet home.

The honeymoon can last five days or five years, but at some point the heat and hormones subside.
Oh, yeah? Romance can never last, but intimacy can never end.

In marriage There are questions that When we began to answer, something wonderful will begin to happened. We will started to get to know each other beyond love and sex.

1. What have you learned to appreciate about me that you didn’t know when we first married?

2. What have you learned that irritates, upsets or frightens you?

3. Are you satisfied with the amount of time we spend together? The amount of time we spend separately?

4. Have we had any major life shocks? If so, what did we learn about ourselves, each other, our relationship?

5. What dreams or expectations did we have about married life? Which have been fulfilled and which have not?

6. What have I given up for you? How do I feel about it?

7. What have you given up for me? How do you feel?

8. At what times have we felt happiest together?

9. Is our sexual connection satisfying to you? To me?

10. How do we manage when desire levels differ?

11. Where are you feeling content in your life? Our life?

12. How much money do we have now? How much did we think we would have at this point?

When it comes to marriage, what you don’t know really can hurt you.

Whether because of shyness, lack of interest or a desire to preserve romantic mystery, many couples do not ask each other the difficult questions that can help build the foundation for a stable marriage, according to relationship experts.

In addition to wanting someone with whom they can raise children and build a secure life, those considering marriage now expect their spouses to be both best friend and confidant.

Sure, there are plenty of questions couples can ask of each other early in the relationship to help ensure a good fit, but let’s face it: most don’t.

“If you don’t deal with an issue before marriage, you deal with it while you’re married,” said Robert Scuka, the executive director of the National Institute of Relationship Enhancement. It can be hard to keep secrets decade after decade, and reticence before the wedding can lead to disappointments down the line.

The following questions, intimate and sometimes awkward, are designed to spark honest discussions and possibly give couples a chance to spill secrets before it’s too late.

TOPIC: HOW TO MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE LAST AND ENJOYABLE

Making marriage last - what is the key?"

What can a married couple do to ensure that their marriage will last? The first and most important issue is one of obedience to God and His Word. This is a principle that should be in force before the marriage begins. God says, “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” (Amos 3:3). For the born-again believer, this means not beginning a close relationship with anyone who is not also a believer. “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). If this one principle were followed, it would save a lot of heartache and suffering later in marriages.

Another principle that would protect the longevity of a marriage is that the husband should obey God and love, honor, and protect his wife as he would his own body (Ephesians 5:25–31). The corresponding principle is that the wife should obey God and submit to her own husband “as to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:22). The marriage between a man and a woman is a picture of the relationship between Christ and the church. Christ gave Himself for the church, and He loves, honors, and protects her as His “bride” (Revelation 19:7–9).

Building on the foundation of a godly marriage, many couples find practical ways to help make their marriages last: spending quality time together; saying, “I love you” often; being kind; showing affection; offering compliments; going on dates; writing notes; giving gifts; and being ready to forgive, for example. All these actions are encompassed by the Bible’s instructions to husbands and wives.

When God brought Eve to Adam in the first marriage, she was made from his “flesh and bone” (Genesis 2:21) and they became “one flesh” (Genesis 2:23–24). Becoming one flesh means more than just a physical union. It means a meeting of the mind and soul to form one unit. This relationship goes far beyond sensual or emotional attraction and into the realm of spiritual “oneness” that can only be found as both partners surrender to God and each other. This relationship is not centered on “me and my” but on “us and our.” This is one of the secrets to a lasting marriage.

Making a marriage last for a lifetime is something both partners have to make a priority. Couples whose marriages last celebrate their commitment to each other. Many couples make it a point not to even speak of divorce, even in anger. Solidifying one’s vertical relationship with God goes a long way toward ensuring the horizontal relationship between a husband and wife is a lasting, God-honoring one.

A couple who desires their marriage to last must learn how to deal with problems. Prayer, Bible study, and mutual encouragement are good. And there is nothing wrong with seeking outside help; in fact, one of the purposes of the church is to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24). A struggling couple should seek advice from an older Christian couple, a pastor, or a biblical marriage counsellor.

Dating and Courting

Although the words “courtship” and “dating” are not found in the Bible, we are given some principles that Christians are to go by during the time before marriage. The first is that we must separate from the world's view on dating because God's way contradicts the world's (2 Peter 2:20). While the world’s view may be to date around as much as we want, the important thing is to discover the character of a person before making any commitment to him or her. We should find out if the person has been born again in the Spirit of Christ (John 3:3-8) and if he or she shares the same desire toward Christ-likeness (Philippians 2:5). The ultimate goal of dating or courting is finding a life partner.
The Bible tells us that, as Christians, we should not marry an unbeliever (2 Corinthians 6:14-15) because this would weaken our relationship with Christ and compromise our morals and standards.

When one is in a committed relationship, whether dating or courting, it is important to remember to love the Lord above all else (Matthew 10:37). To say or believe that another person is “everything” or the most important thing in one’s life is idolatry, which is sin (Galatians 5:20; Colossians 3:5). Also, we are not to defile our bodies by having premarital sex (1 Corinthians 6:9, 13; 2 Timothy 2:22). Sexual immorality is a sin not only against God but against our own bodies (1 Corinthians 6:18). It is important to love and honor others as we love ourselves (Romans 12:9-10), and this is certainly true for a courtship or dating relationship. Whether dating or courting, following these biblical principles is the best way to have a secure foundation for a marriage. It is one of the most important decisions we will ever make, because when two people marry, they cleave to one another and become one flesh in a relationship which God intended to be permanent and unbreakable (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5).

TOPIC: What should be the response of a Christian whose spouse has had an affair?

Infidelity creates a very difficult and painful situation, one that involves all the emotions, and, for the Christian, can stretch faith almost to the breaking point. The best thing to do is “turn all your worries over to Him. He cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7). If you have been wronged, go to the Lord for comfort, wisdom, and direction on a daily basis. God can help us through the deepest of trials.

Adultery is always wrong. “God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral” (Hebrews 13:4). The injured party should rest in the truth that God is the avenger. The wronged individual does not need to fret over getting even. God will do a much better job of avenging us. When we are betrayed, we need to commit the pain to the One who knows every detail and will deal with it appropriately.

PRAY. Seek the Lord for wisdom, for healing, and for guidance. Pray for yourself, pray for the offender, and pray for anyone else involved. Pray for the Lord to direct your thoughts, words, actions, and decisions.

BE HONEST. A betrayed spouse is going to suffer the effects of deep hurt. It is appropriate to engage the anger and hurt caused by infidelity. Expressing these emotions to God can be a first step toward true healing (see Psalm 77:1–2). Giving our emotions and needs over to God allows Him to minister to our hearts so that we can begin to let go of the offense. Godly counsel from a Christian counselor or pastor is helpful.

BE WILLING TO FORGIVE. We are to forgive others as we have been forgiven (Ephesians 4:32). We should be willing and ready to extend forgiveness to anyone, including a spouse who has had an affair, who comes to us in repentance, confessing his sin (Matthew 6:14 –15; 18:23 –35; Ephesians 4:31 –32; Colossians 3:13). True forgiveness may not be accomplished for some time, but the willingness to forgive should be present always. To harbor bitterness is sin and will negatively affect everyday decisions.

BE WISE. We must consider the possibility that the unfaithful spouse does not repent of his or her sin. Are we to forgive a person who does not confess his sin and remains unrepentant? Part of the answer is to remember what forgiveness is not:

Forgiveness is not forgetting. We are not asked to forget the experience but to deal with it and move forward.

Forgiveness is not the elimination of consequences. Sin has natural consequences, and even those who are forgiven may still suffer as a result of their past choices: “Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished” (Proverbs 6:28–29).

Forgiveness is not a feeling. It is a commitment to pardon the offender. It is a transaction made between the offended and the offender. Feelings may or may not accompany forgiveness.

Forgiveness is not a private, secret act within an individual’s heart. Forgiveness involves at least two people. This is why confession and repentance are required.

Forgiveness is not the automatic restoration of trust. It is wrong to think that forgiving an unfaithful spouse today means everything is back to normal tomorrow. Scripture gives us many reasons to distrust those who have proved themselves untrustworthy (see Luke 16:10–12). Rebuilding trust can only begin after a process of reconciliation involving true forgiveness—which, of course, involves confession and repentance.

Also, importantly, forgiveness offered is not the same as forgiveness received. The attitude of forgiveness—being willing to forgive—is different from the actual transaction of forgiveness. We must not short-circuit the process of confession and repentance and the rebuilding of trust.

Forgiveness may be offered by the wronged spouse, but, to be complete, it requires that the one who had the affair acknowledges his need for forgiveness and receives it, bringing reconciliation to the relationship.

BE FORGIVEN. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When a marriage is in crisis, both parties should ask God to help them see how each may have contributed to the whole situation and be released from the weight of guilt before God. From that point on, there will be freedom to seek His counsel and guidance. His Holy Spirit will enable them to do what they could not do on their own. “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).

As God leads, true forgiveness and reconciliation are possible. No matter how long it takes, every effort must be made to forgive and reconcile (see Matthew 5:23–24). As to whether to stay or to leave, “whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery—unless his wife has been unfaithful” (Matthew 19:9, NLT). While the innocent party may have grounds for divorce, God’s preference is forgiveness and reconciliation.

In summary, when a Christian’s spouse has had an affair, the wronged party must guard against bitterness (Hebrews 12:15) and be careful not to repay evil for evil (1 Peter 3:9). We should be willing to forgive and genuinely want reconciliation; at the same time, we should not extend forgiveness to the unrepentant. In all things we must seek the Lord and find our wholeness and healing in Him.
