Robber steals car, hides stolen car in a church

The police in Oyo State have recovered a stolen Toyota Camry car in a church in Gbongan, Osun State.

The police said it was hidden by a suspected robber, Yinka Oyeniran.

It was alleged that Oyeniran was a member of a car-snatching syndicate.

He allegedly led three others on September 10, 2013 to a Christian centre around the Kute Wofun area of Ibadan, where the car with plate number Lagos, LSR 292 AT was snatched. They also took the victim’s phone, jewellery and N120,000.

The car, however, had a tracking device, through which the police monitored the car after the victim reported the incident.

The car was later demobilised but Oyeniran was said to have pushed it to a church in Akinlalu junction, Gbongan. He was said to have told the pastor of the church that he brought the vehicle for blessing.

It was learnt that Osun and Oyo states police command laid an ambush for Oyeniran. When he returned to take his loot, he was arrested.

Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Ilobanafo, said an unregistered Honda motorcycle, a Nissan Sunny car with plate number Osun, AP 406 SGB, and a rectum cable wire were also recovered from the suspect.
