IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL
TOPIC: WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR DOUBTS
Should a Christian have doubts, not only doubts about salvation but, we find, many times, that we doubt a lot of things. We are encouraged in the scripture not to doubt and yet we are human and we have doubts. Many times, we think if we doubt we are not Christians, if we doubt it is a sign we have no faith.
I want to encourage you today and tell you that we have many examples in the Bible of those who doubted and yet defeated their doubts. You don't have to be defeated by doubt, you can defeat doubt.
In Mark 9, we have the story of a father who brings his sick boy to the Lord. As he brings this sick boy to the Lord, he does have faith and yet he has a faith that is mixed with doubt.
He makes a statement here in verse 24 that I think all of us can identify with.
Mark 9:23 – Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
(24) And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Then Jesus went on, of course, and healed the boy. But notice this statement, "Lord, I believe, but help thou my unbelief" and how the father makes this statement with tears. Theirs is great emotion here, emotion because of concern for his child, emotion because he did believe in the Lord and yet the problem was so difficult, it seemed like uncrossable a river. It seemed like an insurmountable mountain and yet, he said, "I do believe, yet there is unbelief in my heart. The problem is so difficult. The thing is so big. I know you can do it, but help that unbelief in my heart
In the book of James, we're cautioned about praying with doubt. We are encouraged to pray without doubt. In James 1:6, the Bible says that if you ask the Lord for something with doubt that you are like a wave that's tossed. You are like a reed that's shaken in the wind.
LET US PRAY
FATHER IN JESUS NAME FILL OUR HEART WITH DIVINE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST.
