IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL TOPIC: FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL
TOPIC: FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN

TEXT: 2 Timothy 2:1-5 KJV
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. [2] And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. [3] Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. [4] No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. [5] And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

Brethren, the lord didn't promise us that we will not fight in the world, the bible didn't promise us that we shall not face hardships, or that we will not be attack by enemy and face trials and persecution

Rather he says. . .
Jn 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Mt 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

This are what will happen to us because we want to serve God and remain faithful to him, but if you and me can endure then we shall enjoy

Jas 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Jas 1:12 Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Our song should be. . .
2Cor 4:9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

So brethren, whatever you are going through, please stay faithful, its going to be over soon, miracle will happen soon, Jesus will come soon.

Prayer
May God give you power and grace to remain faithful to him to the end in Jesus name

Nigerians Should Expect Solar Eclipse On Sunday

The Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency, Dr. Seidu Mohammed, claims that on Sunday Nigerians will witness a partial or even total solar eclipse.

Mohammed made this known at the briefing in Abuja. He urged Nigerians not to panic over the course of the eclipse.

According to his words, the eclipse will be seen across the country and in the West African sub-region.

“Different cultures have different reactions to them. There is no course for alarm." - he stated.
Mohammed assures people that they don't need to worry about GSM operation - it will continue to work. Other things, as he said, will also be normal.

“Cities by cities will be reported in Nigeria, where the eclipse will be; partial eclipse or total eclipse. People should continue with their normal business. Because of partial rays, people should use their sun glasses.”

128 killed in Yobe Boko Haram attack

Gore gory details of last week’s Boko Haram attacks on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, emerged yesterday. No fewer than 128 people were killed, it was learnt.

Military and hospital reports indicated to Associated Press (AP) that 23 soldiers, eight policemen and 95 insurgents were killed in the five-hour long battle between the Islamic extremists and troops.

There has been no specific figure given by the military on the casualty , but the latest findings showed that the militants had a strong hand and caught troops by surprise.

The attack came after a lull and almost six months after the federal government imposed a state of emergency in Yobe along with Borno and Adamawa states.

Reporters saw that the extremists set ablaze four police command posts and an army barracks where they looted vehicles and weapons.

Police and witnesses said at least two civilians died — a man believed killed by the insurgents and a civil servant shot by soldiers for breaking the curfew.

Also yesterday, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR) urged neigbouring countries to keep their borders open for Nigerians fleeing the escalating violence and who may be in need of international protection.

The Geneva-based agency also advised states against forced return of people to the region.

Spokesperson Dan McNorton told reporters: “Our recommendations are contained in a newly issued Return Advisory, which seeks to ensure that humanitarian and asylum principles are upheld in light of the worsening security situation in northeastern Nigeria.”

How A Choir Member Kidnap Church Member's Son For Money

The level some people go these days just to make free money, even in church, is really worrisome:

Israel Ekwuruibe is a devout catholic who attends church regularly. Aside this, he was a member of the choir at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Finima in Bonny, Rivers State. On Sunday, September 29, he went to church and sat on the choir pew, using his baritone voice to sing praises to God.

But deep within him that day was a sinister plan...
A deadly plan that had been conceived along with five others to kidnap the little son of a church member for a ransom. As soon as he sighted the car of their target, Israel made a sign to other gang members who were also within the church building, pretending to be genuine worshippers.

The other suspects are Ifeanyi, who formed the gang, Godswill Bernard, Loveday Anakwuru, Ogechi Nwosu (also a church member) and Odinaka Gabriel.

Before anyone knew what was happening, the boy was nowhere to be found. Israel and others found their way out of the church but it did not take long before their evil deed became exposed. They were picked one by one in Finima. The leader, who had gone as far as Akwa Ibom State with the child, was apprehended along the way by the military joint task force before any ransom could be collected.

This was how the Rivers State Police Command recently thwarted the plans of a kidnap gang, which thought it would make cool millions from a staff of LNG in Bonny, Rivers State by kidnapping his 3-year-old son.

It was said that police investigations revealed that Israel and Ogechi (his girlfriend) are the ones who brought the idea of kidnapping the son of the LNG staff who attended the same church with them.

In his confession, 30-year-old Israel said:
“On the day we carried out the job, I was on the choir stand and I attended both first and second services. I didn’t know who actually brought the child out but it was Ogechi who described the vehicle that the parents of our target used to bring to church. When they came, I was the one who pointed the vehicle to Godswill. I was in my house when police came to arrest me later.”

the boy's dad is confused if he should still be going to church with his family.

Jonathan Takes Action: Places Stella Oduah On "Suspension"

Following startling revelations from the National Assembly probe in the StellaGate saga, President Goodluck Jonathan, it appears, has finally placed the embattled Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, on what is described as a "tactical suspension", pending the submission his probe panel report.
“Oduah will not be allowed to attend public functions that will have the President in attendance until the three-member committee  set up to investigate the matter turns in its report.”
A reliable Presidency source said Jonathan decided on the 'tactical suspension' hours before the signing of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement between Nigeria and Israel on Monday.

Recalled that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, George Ossi, told the House of Representatives Committee probing Stella Oduah that she led a Nigerian delegation to Israel to sign the BASA. But that did not happen as she was rendered a mere spectator.

It was the ‘suspension’ that made Jonathan to direct the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri, to sign the agreement instead of Oduah on behalf of Nigeria.

In what seemed a corroboration of the “tactical suspension,” the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, insisted that Jonathan would not associate with or shield anybody found to be corrupt. He told Punch that Stella Oduah is not even part of Jonathan's delegates.

“Did you see them (Jonathan and the minister) together in Israel? The President will not associate or shield anybody found to be corrupt,” Gulak said.

Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party said on Tuesday that it was worried by the bulletproof car scandal. Surprisingly, PDP assured Nigerians that whoever was found culpable would face the law because it (PDP) would never condone any form of graft.

Pastor Sam Adeyemi Pours Out His Heart On National Confab

Sam Adeyemi is the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre. As one who has passion for the development of Nigeria, he has joined other Nigerians to express his thoughts on the proposed national conference.

Pastor Adeyemi, host of the popular programme - Success Power - which airs on radio and tv stations within and outside the country, says he doubts if the outcome of the conference will see the light of the day.

In a series of tweets, he says the antecedents of the ruling party with previous conferences “raise doubts as to the implementation of the outcomes of this conference, if any.”

He laments the “utter wretchedness” and worsening living conditions being faced by many Nigerians, saying the situation does not necessarily require the convocation of a national conference for it to improve. He therefore accused the ruling class of “governing the nation without conscience.”

The cleric, who notes via his Twitter handle that he has been drawing inspirations from a book entitled “Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity and Poverty,” says the Federal Government should ensure the “evolving of institutions that will ensure prosperity of the citizenry.”

He says, “Nigeria’s government is taking steps towards organising a national conference now. This gives cause for cheer, but there are questions on my mind. Do we need a national conference to build good roads, schools and hospitals etc?

“Sadly, I have seen utter wretchedness in the living conditions of Nigerians in recent times. Will the Nigerian elite class have enough conscience to create a Nigeria where all citizens can equally prosper? It doesn’t matter whether they are military or civilian, or belong to different political parties. Will this elite class, which has frustrated previous conferences and annulled elections, execute our decisions this time?

“Will the outcomes of this conference, if any, ever become a reality? Is there a way for citizens to shift the balance of power so they have control over the politicians? Or should we encourage the conference to hold and pray that God should hijack the direction somehow?

“Do all constituent parts of Nigeria really want development to happen? Many questions on my mind.”

Adeyemi says it is unfair for a “small elite group” to take charge of political power and use such to control the economy to benefit themselves. He asks political leaders to rule with conscience, adding that the Federal Government should learn a lesson or two from the developmental policies of the United Arab Emirate and England.

Continuing, he notes, “Most countries that have developed did so by evolving inclusive institutions and policies that make prosperity possible for all citizens. So, citizens have control over the elite that control the economy.

“England changed when parliament whittled down the power of the monarchy and created policies to empower citizens to prosper. The Industrial Revolution followed through innovation by citizens. Dubai, which runs a monarchy, has transformed because the elite have a conscience.”

He urges the Nigerian masses to make use of the sanctity of the ballot to kick out inept and bad leaders, and to also make the political class to be in tune with the yearnings of the populace.

Adeyemi asks, “Does the Nigerian populace have the enlightenment and gut to whip the political class into line when the elections come? Is there a way for citizens to shift the balance of power so they have control over the politicians?”

Cholera outbreak: FG confirms death of 74 persons

The Federal Government on Monday said 74 persons had been confirmed dead in the current outbreak of cholera in some parts of the country.

It also said that a total of 373 persons had fallen victim of the disease so far.

To check the rampant cases of cholera, the government advised that citizens should stop open defecation while state and local governments should ensure the provision of toilets and ventilated pit latrines.

Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, said this during the 2013 Physicians Week, which held in Abuja under the theme: Federalism and Nigeria's Healthcare system-An appraisal of the Primary and Secondary healthcare systems.

Chukwu said the government had been working with the states affected by the cholera outbreak in terms of ensuring that the correct treatments were given to affected persons.

He said, "My role as the Minister of Health is limited; as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will continue to advocate that every sector keys into what each sector should do and individuals should preach to every Nigerian to do proper things in terms of sanitation.

"As at yesterday (Sunday), 373 Nigerians have been recorded to have suffered cholera in this current outbreak out of which we have lost 74. We still got a report just yesterday (Sunday) that few of the cases can do with antibiotic.

"Each Nigerian must commit to certain things; can we stop going into the bush to defecate; open defecation is not neglected but every Nigerian must know that it is unhealthy. Even market people are paying N5:00 to use toilets in the market place and that is what they do outside this country."

According to Chukwu, what was important is that Nigerians must do everything to stop open defecation and have access to clean water.

He said, "Another thing is water supply which is a multi-state and multi-sectoral issue. The federal, state and local governments are involved in water supply and we must continue to insist that every Nigerian should have access to clean and potable water.

"In the hands of individuals, it is all about personal hygiene. What now leads to the rapid transmission of cholera is lack of personal hygiene, like people not washing hands after defecating; even after urinating please wash your hands.

"Also wash your hands before eating as you might have had a handshake with people and remember that certain things you eat raw like carrot and other fruits should be properly washed. These basic things will ensure that we no longer have cholera in Nigeria."

Some states in Nigeria were said to have come under the spell of cholera epidemic with Plateau, Sokoto, Zamfara and Lagos states recording the highest figure.

Zamfara State was said to have recorded 1,117 cases with official confirmation of some deaths in two weeks.

The medical teams managing the cholera outbreak in the state said Gusau, the state capital, recorded the highest number of cholera cases, followed by Zurmi, Maradun and Bakura council areas.

Some fresh cases were also said to have been recorded in the Shagari Primary Health Care Centre and other affected places.

President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, expressed concern over the rising increase in sudden deaths in the country, particularly amongst the productive male and female age-groups.
He asked the citizens to always disregard any linkage of such deaths with witchcraft, superstitions or religious beliefs.

Father, girlfriend kidnap 9-yr-old son

A 48-year-old man, yesterday, at the Lagos State command of the Department of State Services, DSS, gave a starling revelation of how he masterminded the kidnap of his nine-year-old son in Badagry area of Lagos.

The suspect, Adeyinka Adebayo, who admitted to have connived with his 28-year-old girlfriend, Kehinde Alonge, said he committed the act to generate money from his church members.

He added that the supposed ransom was to meet up with his girlfriend's demand.

Parading the suspect alongside his girlfriend before journalists, the Director, Lagos State Command, DSS, Mr. Victor Achu, explained that Adebayo had on October 3 reported at the command that his son had been kidnapped.

Achu said: "The command swung into action. Preliminary investigations confirmed the kidnap of the boy by one Kehinde Alonge, who demanded a ransom of N350,000 for his release and directed that the money be paid into a UBA account.

"The account was later discovered to be owned by one Taiwo Faloye. After series of tactical planning, the owner of the account and Kehinde were arrested at Ilesha, Osun State, while trying to withdraw the money."

Drama

A mild drama, however, unfolded following an argument between Adebayo and his girlfriend over who brought up the kidnap plan.

While Adebayo claimed that Kehinde hatched the plan to get the N200,000 she needed to open a hairdressing saloon, the later interrupted, stating that "he is lying. I was in Ilesha when he called me to come to Lagos that some people owed him money.

"He said the only way to collect the money from them was for me to come and take his son away, while he pretends that he had been kidnapped.

"I came to Lagos on October 4. I intended going to the school to pick the boy, but Adebayo advised I picked him from the house.

"Since the children knew me, I told the boy to follow me to get something outside and entered the next available vehicle to Ilesha, Osun State. His father even gave me N3,000 for transport.

"When we got to Ilesha, he sent another N3,750 worth of recharge cards for his feeding. He even called his son on phone daily. He was the one that asked me to demand N350,000.

"However, at the end of the bargain, he said I should accept N200,000. Since I had no bank account, I asked one of my relatives to give me his account details. But we were arrested at the point of withdrawal."

'She needed money'

However, Adebayo, a father of two, said: "My girlfriend said she needed money to open her own hair dressing saloon. Since I was not financially buoyant, I decided to raise money by masterminding my son's kidnap.

"I am a vulcanizer and business had not been booming. Anyone I approached for money usually declined to assist me.

"To get money from my church members in particular, I had to mastermind my son's kidnap.

"He spent nine days at my girlfriend's house. At the end of the day, I was able to raise N450,000 from my church members and friends, who earlier refused to help me.

"I regret my action because my son may never forgive me if he is told. I feel ashamed also because his mother has been down with stroke, though we are no longer married.

"I beg to be forgiven. It was the handiwork of the devil."

The suspects, according to Ochu, would be charged to court.

Sack Stella Oduah and you lose Ndi-Igbo votes in 2015″- Igbo Progressive Union warns President Jonathan.

The Igbo Progressive Union, IPU yesterday sound a note of warning to President Goodluck Jonathan not to dare think of sacking Stella Oduah, the Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation as being clamoured by many Nigerians over her scandalous purchase of two bullet proof BMW cars at the outrageous sum of N225million, if he does, the president should forget about Ndigbo votes in 2015

The group gave the threat at during a protest against public outcry, calling for the sack of the embattled minister.

Nigeria, a country where we celebrate criminals. If not why would anybody, group or individual stands and be identified with a criminal? When shall this country be saved from the hands of tyrannies? May God come to the rescue of Nigeria. A country where criminals are celebrated and shielded in the name of tribal affiliate.

Finally, Jonathan moves against Stella Oduah, prevents her from signing BASA deal

President Goodluck Jonathan may have finally succumbed to public pressure to  move against the embattled Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah, who is currently being probed over the N255m  bulletproof cars bought for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The development came to the fore with the last-minute decision to stop Oduah from signing the much-publicised Bilateral Air Services Agreement with Israel.

The ceremony was given by Presidency officials as the  main purpose of her inclusion in the President's entourage to Israel for this year's Christian pilgrimage.

In her stead, Minister of State I, Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, signed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government while the Deputy Israeli Foreign Minister, Mr. Zeer Elkin, signed on behalf of the Israeli government.

Presidential spokesman,  Dr. Reuben Abati, after releasing a photograph on Monday on the signing ceremony, issued a statement in which he confirmed  that Onwuliri signed on behalf of the government.

Abati did not however explain  why Oduah was not allowed to sign the agreement despite the fact that the photograph released by her aides  showed that she was present at the event.

The President had come under criticisms for allowing the  minister to be on his entourage at a time he set up a three-member   panel to investigate the purchase of the cars.

A top Presidency source on the entourage of the President in Israel told our correspondent on the telephone that the decision to stop Oduah from signing the agreement   was taken shortly after Jonathan arrived in Israel.

That same reason, he added, informed the decision of the President's aides  to keep the minister away from the President since their arrival in the country.

The Special Adviser on Media to Oduah, Mr. Joe Obi, had on October 22 said in statement that the minister travelled to Israel to sign the pact. Two days after, the Ministry's  Permanent Secretary, Mr. George Ossi, told the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation that Oduah could not appear before it because she "was leading the Nigerian delegation to Israel to sign the BASA."

A former Minister of Aviation, Mr.Femi Fani-Kayode,  who shed light on the development, said Jonathan must have prevented her from signing the BASA because of the situation she  was  in.

He said, "BASA is supposed to be signed by the aviation minister or she could delegate it to the  permanent secretary in the ministry. The agreement has nothing to do with the Foreign Affairs Ministry.  I signed quite a few during my tenure

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL. TOPIC: Support From a Friend”

“Support From a Friend”

Scripture: Luke 10:1

Have you ever heard the saying “two heads are better than one”? Whether you’re discipling, sharing the gospel or praying, doing those things with a friend who is also a believer can often be powerful when God is using you.

Even the 72 disciples in Luke 10were sent out in pairs to share the gospel. But remember, even when you’re not doing these things with a friend, you’re never alone because the Holy Spirit is with you (Acts 2).

There is power in agreement and accountability. We encourage you to meet or talk regularly with another follower of Jesus who prays, cares for, and shares Jesus with others. This support could take the form of helping each other in discipling a new believer, or praying together for others.

Jesus even explains in the Bible the power of agreement inMatthew 18:19, where He says that if two people agree on something and ask for it, it will be done for them by His Father in heaven.

You can tell your friend about Jesus, and how he has helped you live out and share your faith based on teachings in the Bible. Teaching someone about it might even be helpful to you!

PRAY NOW:
"Lord, I thank You for sending me the Holy Spirit to be with me as I live out my faith in Jesus. Show me, Lord, who I should ask to support me through prayer and accountability. I pray that you will bind us together in the journey of this friendship. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen."

How to get rid of varicose vein

How to get rid of varicose vein

Many women are seen coming over to the doctor with complaints about varicose veins. These are veins that are tortuous and dilated veins that run right under the skin of the legs and they are thus apparent. Even though they are benign mostly, one may wish to get rid of them due to cosmetic reasons. Many women have them instead of men and they are in a dilemma how to deal with them.Causes of Varicose Veins
Varicose veins usually run in the family history. Thus, if you have people in the family having them, you are more likely to get them.
•    There are valves that act as doorways and run through the veins in order to push the blood flow back to the heart up from the feet. When such a doorway becomes too flappy, fluid tends to accumulate in the veins. That makes them pop out more than usual.
•    Such a nature of the veins is often genetic in nature and there is not much that one can do to prevent them from occurring.Symptoms of Varicose Veins
The symptoms of varicose veins are characteristic in those who suffer them. The symptoms and signs are not as scary as they look.
•    Sometimes people may develop tenderness around the area surrounding the enlarged veins
•    There might occur mild swelling of the legs
•    One could suffer from skin tightening or itching sensation in the legs
•    One could even find the legs going heavy
•    The size of the veins is not proportional to the amount of discomfort that they can cause

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL Topic: Power in positive Partnership

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL
Topic: Power in positive Partnership

Scripture: The Lord now chose 72 other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places He planned to visit. Luke 10:1

"I also tell you this: if two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, My Father in heaven will do it for you." Matthew 18:19

Next to Jesus, the Apostle Paul is the most prominent character in the New Testament. His story is told in the book of Acts, and his instructional letters (epistles) to his spiritual children make up about half the New Testament books.
Being an educated Jewish man and a Roman citizen, Paul had many privileges, including freedom to travel. This enabled him to spread the Gospel across the Roman Empire, preaching and teaching to establish new churches everywhere.

Did He Do It Alone?

Of course, Paul was accompanied and guided by the Holy Spirit. But was that his only support? No! He traveled and worked with different partners and friends throughout his ministry.

First, one day while Christian prophets and teachers in Antioch"were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Dedicate Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.' So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way" (Acts 13:2-3). As a team, Paul and Barnabas effectively shared the Gospel and established several churches.

As Paul began his second missionary journey, his team included Timothy, a young disciple whose mother was a Jewish Believer."They went from town to town, instructing the Believers to follow the decisions made by the Apostles and elders in Jerusalem. So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day" (Acts 16:4-5).

Silas was yet another ministry companion, and suffered imprisonment with Paul. Through this trial, the Lord used Paul and Silas to lead others, including the jailer, to salvation. And when Paul and Silas rejoined their team, "they met with the Believers and encouraged them once more" (Acts 16:40).

Are You Alone?

Saint Paul was one of the most gifted evangelists ever. Time after time, God provided him with "faithful helpers who served with [him] in the Lord’s work" (Colossians 4:7).
If the Lord allowed Paul to rely on partners, you can be sure it can be good for you! Ask the Lord to send someone to join you in the ministry He has for you, and in your life assignment

            2) The HEART desires and rejoices in the truth
            3) The WILL acts upon the truth
      3. True, saving faith, then, LEADS TO ACTION
         a. It is not intellectual contemplation
         b. It is not emotionalism
         c. It is that which leads to obedience in doing good works

   B. TO ILLUSTRATE, JAMES REFERS TO TWO WELL-KNOW PERSONS IN THE
      BIBLE:  ABRAHAM & RAHAB
      1. You could not find two more different persons!
         a. Abraham was the father of the Jews; Rahab was a Gentile!
         b. Abraham was a godly man; Rahab had been a sinful woman, a
            harlot!
         c. Abraham was the friend of God; Rahab had belonged to the
            enemies of God!
      2. What did they have in common?  Both exercised saving faith in
         God!
         a. Abraham demonstrated his saving faith by his works - 20-24
         b. Rahab demonstrated her saving faith by her works - 25-26
      3. We learn from this passage that:
         a. Faith without works is a DEAD faith - 20,26
         b. That "faith only" (the only time this phrase is found in the
Scriptures) cannot justify one - 24
         c. That PERFECT faith necessitates works - 22

CONCLUSION

1. It is important that each professing Christian examine his or her own
heart and life, and make sure that they possess true saving faith,
   which is a dynamic faith

2. Satan is the great deceiver; one of his devices is imitation
   a. If he can convince a person that counterfeit faith is true
      faith...
   b. ...then he has that person in his power!

3. Here are some questions we can ask ourselves as we examine our faith:

Was there a time when I honestly realized I was a sinner and admitted
this to myself and to God?

Was there a time when my heart stirred me to flee from the wrath to
come?  Have I ever been seriously worked up over my sins?

Do I truly understand the gospel, that Christ died for MY sins and
then rose again?  Do I understand and confess that I cannot save
   myself?

Did I sincerely repent of my sins, making the decision to turn from
them?  Do I now hate sin and fear God?  Or do I secretly love sin
   and want to enjoy it?

Have I trusted Christ and Him alone for my salvation by responding
to the commands He has given?  Have I confessed my faith in Christ
and then been baptized for the remission of my sins as He and His
   apostles commanded?

Has there been a change in my life?  Do I maintain good works, or
are my good works occasional and weak?  Do I seek to grow in the
things of the Lord?  Can others tell that I have been with Jesus?

Do I have a desire to share Christ with others?  Or am I ashamed
   of Him?

Do I enjoy the fellowship of God's people?  Is worship a delight to
   me?

Am I ready for the Lord's return?  Or will I be ashamed when He
   comes for me?

4. To be sure, not every Christian has the same degree of faith; those
who have had more time to grow should be stronger in faith

5. But for the most part, the spiritual inventory can assist a person
in determining his or her true standing before God

May our prayer be similar to that of the Psalmist's:

             "Search me, O God, and know my heart;
                try me and know my anxieties;
"And see if there is any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting." PSalm 139:23-24

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL TOPIC: II. DEMONIC FAITH

Continue from yesterday. . .
IOI  CHRISTIAN MEAL
TOPIC: II. DEMONIC FAITH (18,19)

   A. PERHAPS TO SHOCK ANY COMPLACENT READERS, JAMES REMINDS US THAT
EVEN "DEMONS" HAVE A KIND OF FAITH!
      1. They believe in God (no atheists or agnostics here!)
      2. They even believe in the deity of Christ - cf. Mk 3:11-12
      3. They also believe in the existence of a place of condemnation
         - cf. Lk 8:31
      4. And they believe Jesus will be the Judge! - Mt 8:28-29

   B. WHAT KIND OF FAITH DO "DEMONS" HAVE?
      1. We saw that the man with "dead faith" was "touched only in his
         intellect"
      2. The demons are "touched also in their emotions" (note that they
         "believe and tremble")
      3. This is one step above a "dead faith" - it involves both
         INTELLECT and EMOTIONS

   C. CAN THIS KIND OF FAITH SAVE?
      1. NO!  A person can be enlightened in his mind and even stirred
in his heart and still be lost forever!
      2. True saving faith involves something more, something that can
be seen and recognized:  a changed life! (cf. Jm 2:18)
      3. Being a Christian involves trusting Christ and living for
         Christ!
         a. You first RECEIVE the life...
         b. Then you REVEAL the life!

   D. DO WE HAVE THIS KIND OF FAITH?
      1. We do, if we just BELIEVE the right things and FEEL the right
         things
      2. We do, if our service to God does not go beyond...
         a. Intellectually adhering to the right doctrines
         b. Emotional experiences while attending services

[Thus, James has introduced us to two kinds of faith that can NEVER
save:  DEAD faith (involving the intellect alone), and DEMONIC faith
(involving the intellect and the emotions, but stopping there).

He closes this section by describing in verses 20-26 the only kind of
faith that can save...] I WILL CONTINUE TOMORROW.

PRAYER
EVERY DEMONIC FAITH IN MY HEAD, I CAST YOU OUT IN JESUS NAME, I RECEIVE THE FAITH OF JESUS IN JESUS NAME

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL, TOPIC: "Three Kinds Of Faith ( JAMES 2:14-26)

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL,
TOPIC: "Three Kinds Of Faith ( JAMES 2:14-26)

INTRODUCTION

1. Faith is certainly an essential element in the Christian life:
   a. Without faith, it is impossible to please God - He 11:6
   b. The Christian is saved by faith - Ep 2:8
   c. The Christian is to walk (live) by faith - 2Co 5:7
   d. Whatever we do apart from faith is described as sin - Ro 14:23

2. It is important to realize, however, that there are different kinds
of faith, but only one that is truly "saving faith"

3. In James 2:14-26, we find James discussing the different kinds of
faith, with an emphasis upon that faith which works to the saving of
   the soul

[Beginning with verses 14-17, we notice the first kind of faith.  We
might call this kind of faith...]

I. DEAD FAITH (14-17)

   A. THIS KIND OF FAITH...
      1. Substitutes words for deeds (consider James' example)
         a. People with this kind of faith:
            1) Know the correct vocabulary for prayer and sound doctrine
            2) Can even quote the right verses from the Bible
         b. But their "walk" does not measure up to their "talk"!
      2. Is only an INTELLECTUAL faith
         a. In one's mind, he or she knows the doctrine of salvation
         b. But they have never really submitted themselves to God and
            trusted in Jesus for salvation
         c. They know the right "words", but they do not back up their
            words with their "works"!

   B. CAN THIS KIND OF FAITH SAVE?
      1. NO!  Three times in this passage, James emphasizes that "faith
without works is dead" - Jm 2:17,20,26
      2. Any declaration of faith that does not result in a changed life
and good works is a false declaration:  A DEAD FAITH!
      3. Dead faith is counterfeit faith and lulls the person into a
         false confidence of eternal life

   C. DO WE HAVE THIS KIND OF FAITH?
      1. We do, if our WALK does not measure up to our TALK!
      2. We do, if our WORKS do not measure up to our WORDS!

[We need to beware of mere intellectual faith.  As Warren Wiersbe said,

"No man can come to Christ by faith and remain the same, anymore than
he came into contact with a 220-volt wire and remain the same."
   (compare this to 1Jn 5:12)

PRAYER
MAY YOUR FAITH NEVER DIE IN JESUS NAME, MAY GOD GIVE YOU AND ME A GREAT FAITH IN JESUS NAME

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL TOPIC : God will give you a strategy

I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. ~ I Corinthians 9:22b

READING: I Corinthians 9:19-23

God has established principles in His word for everything we do. Following these principles in our lives will guarantee success in everything that we do (Josh. 1:8).
He has also filled our world with many different people groups from many different cultures who need to have the church, the body of Christ, planted among them.
The principles will be the same because they come from God’s Word, but what strategy God will give us depends somewhat upon the people group where we are working.
It is necessary for us to spend time alone with God praying for the people and to hear from God the next step or divine strategy.
The Lord will show us or impress upon us to do a certain thing, then later He will show us more strategy. It is the body of Christ and He, the Head, knows how best to proceed.

The Lord has given us a strategy to evangelize multiple villages, discover and train potential leadership through Bible training seminars, train key regional leaders and give spiritual support to these key leaders in every way possible.
God has blessed His work through these strategies.

What are the strategies that God has given to you for your particular community? Are you obedient to the principles in His word and the strategies for your particular area?

PRAYER
Lord, These precious people are your creation. You love them and do not wish that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Please show me your special strategies for reaching this particular group. Amen.

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL: TOPIC: EQUIPPING THE BROKEN PEOPLE

I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. ~ Luke 5:32

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,to equip the saints for the work of ministry . . . ~ Ephesians 4:11, 12a (ESV)

READING: Luke 5:27-32

The people our new churches reach are broken people. Jesus said those whom He would call to repentance were the sinners – not those who see themselves as righteous. But saved sinners are still broken people. We are called to “equip” them.

The word “equip” (NIV “prepare,” KJV “perfect”) is a beautiful word in the Greek language. We get the word “artisan” from its root. An artisan is someone who makes something beautiful and useful.

In the first century world, the word “equip” was used of “mending” a broken limb. To reconcile opposing political factions was to “equip” them.

In the Gospels, the verb “equip” was used of mending torn fishing nets (Matt. 4:21). Paul tells those who are spiritual to “restore” a brother who falls into a transgression (Gal. 6:1).
Restore is the verb “equip.” “To equip” means to take that which is broken or torn and so heal and mend and restore it that it becomes beautiful and useful.

Only God’s grace can transform broken lives so they become useful and beautiful. And God’s word is the only instrument of lasting change. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work” (II Tim. 3:16, 17).

Church planting is not only about finding lost people, but equipping broken ones – through the faithful teaching, reproof, correction and training of God’s word.
PRAYER
Father, Grant me Christ’s compassion for broken people. Enable me to “equip” them through Your holy word. Amen.

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL: TOPIC: SHARING JESUS WITH OTHERS

Scripture:
Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles — all who have been called by the Lord our God.” Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the Church that day — about 3,000 in all. Acts 2:37-41

We Christians are told to "always be ready to explain [our Christian hope]" (1 Peter 3:15) and "to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors" (1 Peter 2:12) to bring honor to God. So what is the very best way you can share God's love with those close to you, and other people you encounter?

The Rock
Peter was one of the first disciples, and also one of the most outstanding (noteworthy? remarkable?). He had been deeply involved in the family fishing business with his brother Andrew. Yet when Jesus called for them to become His followers,"they left their nets at once and followed Him" (Matthew 4:20). Peter demonstrated his decisiveness (some would say impulsiveness), leaving his livelihood to head into the unknown.

Peter’s name had been Simon, but Jesus’ new title for him was Peter, meaning “Rock.” Jesus went on to call him the "rock [upon which] I will build My Church" (Matthew 16:18). In today’s Scripture, Peter preaches to thousands to start building the Lord's Church. Time spent with Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit, had transformed this uneducated fisherman into a powerful gospel messenger.
After that speech, Peter continued to build the Church, in person and through letters to new Believers. These letters eventually became part of the Bible -- First and Second Peter -- and continue to strengthen Jesus’ followers to this day.

Unique Gifts
God has made you special, just as like Peter. He gave each of us unique talents and abilities. How are you feeling God's call on your life? Whatever your profession or job, God can use you. He might not ask you to give it up to become a preacher, as He did with Peter. In fact, another great Apostle, Paul, had a profession: he "lived and worked with [friends who] were tentmakers just as he was" (Acts 18:3).

You can serve God right where you are, with the unique personality and abilities He gave you. As you spend time with the Lord and let the Holy Spirit’s power work in you, you too will be able you to share about Jesus with others.
So what are you good at? Pray that God will help you to make good decisions as you serve and represent Him. "Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father" (Colossians 3:17).

“How will YOU lead someone to Christ?”
Scripture: Acts 2:37-41

The Bible tells us that Apostle Peter preached the salvation message to a crowd gathered for a religious festival, and three thousand souls were saved!

When you are watchful, alert and expectant, you will see God-given opportunities to lead others to Christ right in the midst of your everyday circumstances!

Here are two personal examples that God can work out in similar ways for you:

• After months and years of a steadily nurtured friendship, my friend said: "Now tell me: how can I follow your Christ like you do?"

• After asking a shopping mall guard how I could pray for him, he said: "Yes, how may I get Jesus to save me?"

Both of these things really did happen!

Here are some more tips on ways to share your faith: •

Always carry gospel tracts (if you have one) to give to people who might ask, or to anyone the Holy Spirit might prompt you to share with.

• Be prepared with a short verbal method of sharing the gospel

• You can even draw the gospel message on a piece of paper.

Remember that sharing the gospel is more than just sharing facts; it’s an invitation to a new life. Always give someone the chance to say “yes” to Jesus’ love and forgiveness. If they are willing, lead them in a prayer asking for forgiveness of their sins and inviting Jesus to be their Lord and Savior.

GOD BLESS YOU TODAY

Couple sell thier daughter, use proceeds to buy an iPhone

A young Chinese couple are facing criminal punishment for “selling” their infant daughter and using the proceeds to buy an Apple iPhone, state media said Friday.

Shanghai prosecutors have brought a case against them for human trafficking after they illegally put their third child up for adoption online and accepted money for the baby, the Liberation Daily reported.

Investigators found the mother, whose full name was not given, used the money to buy an iPhone, high-end sports shoes and other goods, it said.

Apple’s products are wildly popular in China, where a teenager sold his kidney and used the funds to buy an iPhone and iPad in an incident widely reported last year.

But the couple told police that they wanted the girl to have a better upbringing than they could afford, since they already had two children.

“Giving away the child was not for obtaining benefits, but giving the child better guarantees,” one said.

Some Chinese, especially in rural areas, have a traditional preference for sons though reports did not say if the child’s gender was also a factor in the case.

Online commentary condemned the couple, though some used black humour to describe modern Chinese society and the quest for wealth.

“So cold-blooded! These people do not deserve the right to be parents!” said Wangzhan1969 in a microblog posting.

“This is good business — no capital, huge profit and no need to sell kidneys,” said another posting.

An official of the prosecutor’s office handling the case expressed worry over “sensationalism” surrounding the affair but declined to comment further to AFP.

Shanghai police could not be reached for comment.

Reports did not give the amount the couple received for the child, but their online postings asked for 30,000 yuan and 50,000 yuan ($4,900 and $8,200).

Apple last month launched the iPhone 5s, including a gold-coloured model, and the more budget-conscious iPhone 5c in China.

Will The World End In 2032? Astronomers Discover Asteroid Heading to the Earth

An asteroid that could hit Earth with the power of 2,500 nuclear bombs flew close to the planet on September 16.

Last night, Ukrainian astronomers said there is a chance it could come even closer and strike our planet on August 26, 2032.

Nasa has attempted to calm nerves by issuing a 'a reality check', which highlights that the probability of an Earth impact is only one in 63,000.

That means astronomers are 99.9984 per cent certain that it will miss Earth's orbit. Crimean Astrophysical Observatory found the massive asteroid, called 2013 TV135, last weekend and the international scientific community has already rated it as one of the two most dangerous asteroids ever recorded.

The asteroid is initially estimated to be about 1,300 feet (400 meters) in size and its orbit carries it as far out as about three quarters of the distance to Jupiter's orbit and as close to the sun as Earth's orbit.

Massive: The asteroid would strike with 2,500megatons of explosive force, enough to create damage within a 100,000 square-mile radius. (Blast location for illustrative purposes only)

As of October 14, asteroid 2013 TV135 is one of 10,332 near-Earth objects that have been discovered. Scientists have given it a danger rating of 1 out of 10 on the Torino Scale. Only one other asteroid has been given a rating of 1.

The risk for all others has been judged 0, negligible. The effects of an impact would be catastrophic, especially if it struck a populated area. If 2013 TV135 were to collide with Earth, it is estimated to impact with 2,500 megatons of explosive power.

The standard U.S. Minute Man II missiles carries a nuclear warhead with an explosive power of a little over 1 megaton. But Nasa said that with only a week of observations for an orbital period that spans almost four years, its future orbital path is 'still quite uncertain.'

The space agency expects the object to be easily observable in the coming months, and will be using the Minor Planet Centre in Cambridge, Massachusetts to improve calculations.

The asteroid was discovered by astronomers at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory and later confirmed by scientists as observatories in Spain, Italy and Siberia, Russia

It said the most likely result will be a dramatic reduction, or complete elimination, of any risk of Earth impact.
"To put it another way, that puts the current probability of no impact in 2032 at about 99.998 per cent," said Don Yeomans, manager of Nasa’s Near-Earth Object Programme Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

"This is a relatively new discovery. With more observations, I fully expect we will be able to significantly reduce, or rule out entirely, any impact probability for the foreseeable future."

The asteroid is much smaller than the interplanetary object that hit Earth and killed off the dinosaurs 65million years ago. Currently, 2007 VK184 is believed to have the best chance of striking Earth.

The 420-foot-wide object is said to have a 1 in 2700 chance of making contact with the planet in 2048. It is the only other asteroid to have a 1 rating on the Torino Scale.

Don’t use Islam as excuse for violence, Sultan warns Nigeria Muslims

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Thursday warned Muslims against fomenting trouble in the name of religion in the country.

Mr. Abubakar spoke in his Palace when the Emirs of Gwandu and Argungu in Kebbi, Ilyasu Bashar and Sama’ila Mera, respectively, paid him the traditional sallah homage.

According to him, Islam is a religion of peace and it abhors violence.

“Violence and mayhem tarnish the image of Islam and Muslims and we should shun them. We should only rely on God, the Almighty, as the Alpha and Omega of the World,’’ he said.

The sultan further appealed to northerners to work toward ensuring sustained peace and unity.

“This should be ensured in the region and by extension all parts of the country, as God has created us together with diverse backgrounds.

“These religious, ethnic and cultural differences, among others, should further unite and not divide us,” he said.

Earlier, Messrs Bashar and Mera had told the sultan that they were in his palace to pay respect to him, adding: “we are here to strengthen the bond of relationships between us.’’

Abandoned newly born rescued in a bush

The Police Command in Benue has recovered a newly born baby abandoned in a bush near the Gboko General Hospital.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala, confirmed the recovery to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi on Friday.

Ezeala said that the child was picked by a `Good Samaritan’ and handed it over to the police.

“This baby was found around 3a.m., this morning in a bush near the hospital by a passer-by who heard it crying and went for its rescue.

“The police swung into action immediately and arrested the mother of the child who gave her name as Seember Akase,’’ Ezeala said.

The spokesman said that the suspect was still at the police custody, and advised parents to be watchful over their children to prevent them from contravening the law.

He said that investigation into the matter was ongoing and the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations were over. (NAN)

Popular Muslim Cleric Rapés & Beats His 5yrs Daughter to Death

Wonders, they say, shall never end. A conservative Muslim preacher in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to eight years in prison and 800 lashes for raping his five-year-old daughter.

The preacher, pictured above, is known as Fayhan al-Ghamdi. He usually preached on television as a good man. But he lost he sense of decency and violated his daughter of just 5years. Not only did this Muslim cleric raped his young daughter, he also beat her mercilessly, leading to her death.

Fayhan was convicted of beating his daughter Lama with canes, burning her with electrical cables, crushing her skull and tearing off her nails. She was also raped repeatedly and died later in a Saudi hospital.

Saudi Arabia is know to follow a strict interpretation of Islam under which murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery are capital crimes, with execution mostly by firing squad. But in the case of Muslim preacher Fayhan, he was sentenced to just 8years in prison.

The case of Lama caused a public outcry and brought to light sensitive issues surrounding the ambiguity of punishment for Saudi fathers found guilty of murdering their own children.

Saudi officials say the popular Muslim preacher was not given a harsher sentence because the girl's mother accepted 1 million riyals, roughly $267,000, from him (her ex-husband) as "blood money," which is allowed in litigation under Saudi law.

The Egyptian mother, who acquired Saudi nationality through her ex-husband, said she is a poor woman with no income. By accepting the money, she waived the right to demand retribution against Fayhan for the death of their daughter.

Some are however alleging that the woman was pressured to accept the money.

IOI CHRISTIAN MEAL: TOPIC: The Four Laws of God’s

Text: “I will bless you … and you will be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2 NIV)

1. Our blessings should flow to others.

The Bible teaches us that we are blessed not just so that we can feel good, not just so we can be happy and comfortable, but so that we will bless others. God told Abraham in Genesis 12:2, “I will bless you ... and you will be a blessing” (NIV). This is the first law of blessing: It must flow outwardly.

How do you bless others? By serving a need, whether it is physical or emotional support, financial help, or practical advice. "Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand" (Philippians 1:4 MSG).

2. When we bless others, God takes care of our needs.

God promises that if we will concentrate on blessing others, he’ll take care of our needs. There’s almost nothing that God won’t do for the person who really wants to help other people. In fact, God guarantees this blessing. In Luke 18, Jesus says, “I guarantee this. Anyone who gives up anything for the kingdom of God will certainly receive many times more in this life and will receive eternal life in the next world to come.”

When you care about helping other people, God assumes responsibility for your problems. And that’s a real blessing, for he’s much better at handling your difficulties than you are.

3. Our blessings to others will come back on us.

The more you bless other people and the more you help others, the more God blesses your life. Luke 6:38 tells us, “Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back — given back with bonus and blessing” (MSG). You cannot out-give God. The more you try to bless other people in the world around you, the more God says, “I’m going to pour blessings out on you. We’ll play a little game here. Let’s see who will win. Let’s see who can give the most. The more you bless others, the more I’m going to bless you in return.”

4. The more we’re blessed by God, the more he expects us to help others.

Jesus said it this way in Luke 12: “Much is required from the person to whom much is given; much more is required from the person to whom much more is given”  We are blessed to be a blessing.

'Strange Fire' Conference: John MacArthur Calls Out Charismatic Movement as 'Unfaithful'

By Nicola Menzie

John MacArthur, influential author, pastor and seminary president, has kicked off the Strange Fire conference at his California church this week and reportedly stated during his opening remarks that the charismatic movement "dishonors God" and "offers nothing to enrich true worship."

MacArthur, a cessationist, has long been an outspoken advocate of weighing the claims and activities of those in the charismatic movement against Scripture, and tied the conference to the release of his latest book, Strange Fire: The Danger of Offending the Holy Spirit With Counterfeit Worship. In a series of promotional videos leading up the conference, the 74-year-old Calvinist minister insisted that the Strange Fire conference would focus on "the false worship" coming from the movement, and is not about worship styles or preferences.

In explaining the concept of "strange fire" in one promotional video, MacArthur points to Leviticus 9 and 10 in which acceptable worship and unacceptable worship are contrasted.

Many die in stampede as Kwara PDP members scramble for Saraki’s sallah gifts

A yet unknown number of members of the Kwara state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, died on Wednesday night as they scrambled for handouts distributed by former Governor of the state, Bukola Saraki.

A source said no fewer than a dozen people were feared dead.

Several others were injured in the incident which occurred at a venue popularly called PDP Charity House, which is near Mr. Saraki’s Ilorin residence.

Tragedy struck as indigent party members tried to outsmart one another as Mr. Saraki and other philanthropists distributed the yearly sallah gifts.

The dead and the injured were packed into ambulances and rushed to nearby hospitals.

In a statement emailed to newsmen on Wednesday night, the Publicity Secretary of Kwara PDP, Mas’ud Adebimpe, confirmed the incident and commiserated with the families of the victims.

He, however, confirmed the death of only four PDP members , with many others injured.

Mr. Adebimpe said, “The Peoples Democratic Party Kwara State chapter held its annual Sallah celebration at PDP Charity House where many party faithful were in attendance.

“The event which is an annual activity of the party went on smoothly until the unfortunate incident of a stampede, which led to some people fainting. They were immediately rushed to a hospital few blocks away from the venue.

“While some are currently responding positively to treatment, we however regret to announce that we lost four of our party members to the unfortunate development.

“Our prayers go out to the families of the deceased and we pray for the quick recovery of those that are responding fast to treatment.”

The yearly sallah gifts distribution by the Sarakis and the party have of late led to multiple deaths.

On May 27, 2011, several people died at the Mandate House, Ilorin, as they scrambled for rice and other items.

At least 11 others died in a similar fashion in November 2010, but only four deaths were also confirmed by the Kwara government at the time.

The man, identified as Akeem, believed to be in his 50s was living in a one room apartment with his wife and four children.

It was gathered that his wife and children had travelled to Imodi Imosan to celebrate sallah with his families and he used the opportunity of their absence to invite his lover over. However, both he and his lover were found dead in the morning, in the room, with the man lying naked on the bed, while the lady’s body was on a two-seater couch.

According to one of his neighbour, who identified himself as Idowu Odunsi, “Akeem brought his lover to come and stay with him over the night, since his wife and children were not at home and when other tenants did not see Akeem in the morning, somebody hinted that he saw him with a lady inside the shop previous night, prompting us to go to his room".

How to raise nice children

The world watched with shock when the news hit the waves of Tolu Kalejaiye, a Nigerian woman who was allegedly slaughtered by her own son in the United Kingdom. The incident has raised fresh concerns about  children and how to raise nice kids in an increasingly violent world.

Here are general tips:

1. Lighten up!

Joking with your toddler helps set them up for social success, according to research presented at the Economic and Social Research Councils’ Festival of Social Science 2011. When parents joke and pretend, it gives young kids the tools to think creatively, make friends and manage stress. So feel free to play court jester — your kids will thank you later.

2. Be Positive

Parents who express negative emotions toward their infants or handle them roughly are likely to find themselves with aggressive kindergartners . That’s bad news, because behavioral aggression at age 5 is linked to aggression later in life, even toward future romantic partners. So if you find yourself in a cycle of angry parent, angry baby, angrier parent, try to break free.

3.Build Compassion

Research suggests that self-compassion is a very important life skill, helping people stay resilient in the face of challenges. Self-compassion is made up of mindfulness, the ability to manage thoughts and emotions without being carried away or repressing them, common humanity, or empathy with the suffering of others, and self-kindness, a recognition of your own suffering and a commitment to solving the problem. Parents can use self-compassion when coping with difficulties in child-rearing. In doing so, they can set an example for their kids.

4.Let them Go!

When the kids fly the nest, research suggests it’s best to let them go. Young adults with hovering, interfering “helicopter” parents are more likely to be anxious, self-conscious and less open to new experiences than their counterparts with more relaxed moms and dads. That doesn’t mean you should kick your offspring to the curb at 18, but if you find yourself calling your child’s class teachers to argue about his grades, it may be time to step back.

5.Be positive

This is of utmost importance. Research suggests that depressed moms struggle with parenting and even show muted responses to their babies’ cries compared with healthy moms. Depressed moms with negative parenting styles may also contribute to their children’s stress, according to 2011 research finding that kids raised by these mothers are more easily stressed out by the preschool years. The findings seem glum, but researchers say they’re hopeful, because positive parenting can be taught even when mom or dad are struggling with their own mental health.

6.Build the Bond

A close relationship with their mothers can help keep boys from acting out, according to a 2010 study. A warm, attached relationship with mom seems important in preventing behavior problems in sons, even more so than in girls, the research found. The findings, published in the journal Child Development, highlight the need for “secure attachment” between kids and their parents, a style in which kids can go to mom and dad as a comforting “secure base” before venturing into the wider world.

The mommy bond may also make for better romance later in life, as another study reported in 2010 showed that a close relationship with one’s mother in early adolescence (by age 14) was associated with better-quality romantic relationships as young adults

7. Mouthy Kids are Good

Teens who talk back to their parents may be exasperating, but their argumentativeness is linked to a stronger rejection of peer pressure outside the home. In other words, autonomy at home fosters autonomy among friends.

Don’t worry, though: The study doesn’t suggest that kids should have adversarial relationships with their parents. In fact, a secure bond between teens and mothers is also linked to less bowing to peer pressure. Teens need to practice standing up for themselves, the researchers reported, but they also need support from their parents.

8. Know Your Kids

Everyone thinks they know the best way to raise a child but it turns out that parenting is not one-size-fits-all. In fact, kids whose parents tailor their parenting style to the child’s personality have half the anxiety and depression of their peers with more rigid parents, according to a study published in August 2011 in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology. It turns out that some kids, especially those with trouble regulating their emotions, might need a little extra help from Mom or Dad. But parents can inadvertently hurt well-adjusted kids with too much hovering.

9. Model kindness yourself

Kindness can be contagious: when we see someone else perform an act of kindness, we are more likely to feel an impulse to help out, too. Research suggests that altruistic children have at least one parent (usually of the same sex) who deliberately communicates altruistic values to their kids. Similarly, when preschoolers have nurturing caregivers who deliberately model helping others, they tend to be more helpful and verbally sympathetic to other children when they hurt themselves. There are many ways to model altruism for your kids.

10. Don’t reward helping behaviour.

Very young children who receive material rewards for helping others become less likely to help in the future compared with toddlers who only receive verbal praise or receive no reward at all. This research suggests that even the youngest children are intrinsically motivated to be kind, and that extrinsic rewards can undermine this tendency. Expose them to need. Too often we protect our kids from pain and suffering, and in so doing we shelter them from others’ needs. Consider the counterintuitive notion that compassion is a positive emotion strongly correlated with happiness, and provide them with opportunities to feel compassion. Teach kids that this compassion is a gift—it is a way to give their time, attention, and energy to another

Ayefele's band boys disappear during US tour, refuse to come back to Nigeria

As gospel music styled secular singer, Yinka Ayefele arrived the country Tuesday, following a six-week musical tour of the United States, there appeared to be a ‘dent’ on the emotion of the artiste, whose fulfilment of the concert was partially shattered by the disappearance of three of his band boys.

The other members of the group arrived amidst cheers by fans, but one could tell that the leader of the band was worried; perhaps knowing the credibility question the defection by the boys could pose to his career. Reports say the ‘gospel tungba’ crooner, has written to the United States Homeland Security to track and deport the three guys who defected at the tail-end of the inter city concert.

The band left the country on September 2, performing at Washington, Maryland, Baltimore, New York, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas.

In a mail sent to the US agency, Ayefele urged the department to look for the defectors and act accordingly, so as to serve as a lesson to others.

The defectors, according to a release signed by his publicist, David Ajiboye, include Ojoyido Adegbenga Ezekiel (Keyboardist), Solomon Olugbenga Motimoke (Vocalist) and Olusola Kayode Isaac (vocalist).

“While Olusola Kayode Isaac defected at the LaGuardiala Airport, New York on Monday, 14th October on his way from Houston with three other members of the band, Ojoyido Adegbenga was said to have disappeared from the group at the Howard Johnson Inn on Rockaway Boulevard, New York on Tuesday, 15th October. The third man was Solomon Motimoke (Yatty), who left the band while still at Washington DC on 11th October,” the statement read.
