Octogenarian sues Oyakhilome’s Church over unpaid rents

An Octogenarian,Mr Isaiah Akinjise, has dragged a cleric,Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his church, Christ Embassy before an Ondo Chief Magistrate Court, seeking possession of a two-storey building located at Agbogboke street in Ondo town.

Besides, the plaintiff, 81 years is seeking an order compelling the defendants to pay him the sum of N300, 000 being
arrears of rent owed him on the said premises, from December 2011 to June 2013.

According to the enrolment order dated July 23, 2013 and signed by the Chief Registry Assistant, Mr E.B Ehindero “an order of the court is hereby granted as prayed. Leave is granted to the applicant to issue and serve on the defendants, Pastor Chris Oyakilome and Christ Embassy Church, the Applicant’s Claim at
Igando Alimosho Lagos , outside the jurisdiction of this Court through Courier Service ”

Before granting the order, Akinjise had through his counsel, Mr Kehinde Emulomo, moved a three paragraph of affidavit in support of the plaintiff claims.

After listening to Emulomo’s application, the presiding Chief Magistrate,Musa Al-Yunus granted the order and adjourned the case till October 21 for further hearing.

The Plaintiff, Akinjise expressed satisfaction on the development and urged the defendant to comply so that he could enjoy the fruit of his labour.

He also urged the church and its leadership to consider his plight adding that the property which is the subject of litigation was the only source of income through which he gets money with which he maintains himself.

The Pastor in charge of the Ondo branch of the church, Peter Ndubisi confirmed that the church had received the court order while efforts were being made by the leadership of the church to settle the matter out of court.

The Cleric said the headquarters of the church had being contacted and expressed optimism that the matter would soon be resolved.
