Sin is Crouching at Your Door—Be on Your Guard!

IOI CHRISTIAN MORNING MEAL

TOPIC: Sin is Crouching at Your Door—Be on Your Guard!

TEXT: “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” (Genesis 4:7 NIV)

NOTE THIS VERSION: We must always be on our guard against the wiles of the evil one. As we can see from this message God gave to Cain in Genesis 4:7, sin is indeed crouching at every person’s door. We must rule over the power of sin that desires to have us.

The secret to overcoming sin is to be aggressive in fulfilling the mission God has given us, fueled by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we are powered by the Holy Spirit, we will be able to see the Holy Spirit put to death the misdeeds of our body, just as it is written in Romans: “Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:12–13, NIV).

By the power of the Spirit, we can put to death those fleshly desires. The power of the cross crucifies the lures of this world and the flesh with its passions, so we can live a life pleasing to the Lord. The power of God in our lives is rooted in the cross: “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18, NIV)

LET US PRAY
FATHER IN JESUS NAME GIVE US POWER TO OVERCOME SIN ON OUR CHRISTIAN JOURNEY IN JESUS NAME
